Endless Inventory

Ratliff ties the idea of having an "endless inventory" of discography to a listeners love of the music. He proposes that the physical copies give fans something to hold on to over the years even after they stop making music. A dedicated fan may look back on these records for something they might've missed, a certain note or lyric that makes them feel something new or perhaps something nostalgic and familiar. Listeners like this crave complexity. They are devoted fans that look for a deeper meaning that everyone else may have missed. Ratliff's concept of endless inventory cultivates the relationship between artist and listener in the most real way. There are a few artists I feel as though I have that level of relationship with and I find myself returning to their music to find that feeling of nostalgia. Eminem has much of my early childhood listening while artists like Travis Scott are my more recent obsessions.

"We want to make something to live around, rather than have it live around us."

Ratliff expands on his concept of endless inventory here. The idea of these physical collections of music remind us in a way other than hearing the music, that it's there. Collections make it easier to look at an artists career as a whole. One can examine and analyze each album and create a better understanding of how the artists has evolved over time.

"Balance, find your balance"

This lyric from Travis Scott's song "through the late night" is one of those that I missed the first couple of times. But being a big time fan I found this after returning to the album recently. I found it means more to me now and it has stuck with me since then.
