In Dachau there were a lot of lice in the straw so typhus was going around.

You wouldn't get soup if any officers saw that you had lice on your shirt.

Vladek ended up getting typhus to go to the infirmary because it had better conditions than the straw.

Anja suffered worse conditions in Birkenau, as her Kapo was a psycho and beat her.

Vladek was saving up bread and cigarettes to bribe an officer to move Anja to the barracks closest to where he was being held.

Anja's Kapo in Birkenau was mean to her and made her carry the big cans of soup, which she couldn't really do.

One German guard had went from Auschwitz to Birkenau for a few days and came back traumatized from the camp.

Vladek goes to Birkenau because of tin work and found Anja, and told her to stay strong.

Anja offers her Kapo Vladek's services as a shoemaker to fix the Kapo's boot.

The Kapo treats her better after it, but after Anja gets one of her food packages, the Kapo chases her and treats everyone worse after that.
