1) The outer layer of the surgical mask is hydrophobic. Thus, it prevents liquid or moisture particles from passing through the layer. The inner layer is hydrophobic too as it is used to filter smaller particles that cannot be filtered by the outer layer. The innermost layer is hydrophilic to absorb moisture or exhaled fluids so that it will not spread to others. This means, if someone has COVID-19 virus, he needs to wear a mask so that he will not spread the virus everywhere. This is more effective compared to those who do not have the virus but keep wearing the mask. Therefore, we need to prioritise those who are infected first to prevent this virus from spreading.
2) No, it is not suitable. If we wear it the other way, the hydrophilic part will absorb the virus and the hydrophobic part will not absorb our exhaled fluids. It also decrease the effectiveness of this mask and causes discomfort for the wearer. So, just follow the correct way to wear the mask to prevent other diseases.
