When Warhol graduated from college in 1949 he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a commercial artist. He started working with Glamour magazine and became one of the most successful commercial artists in the 1950s. He won several awards for his odd and unique style. He painted portraits of famous people. Some of the most famous ones are paintings of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger and Mao Zedong. He also opened his own art studio, which was a large silver-painted warehouse that he called “The Factory”. It became one of New York’s most booked party location for wealthy celebrities and socialites, such as Lou Reed. Warhol experimented with several forms of media, including books and video art. He wrote books like The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Exposures.  Warhol produced more than 60 films during his career. Sleep, which shows the poet John Giorno sleeping for six hours, and Eat, in which a man eats mushrooms for 45 minutes, are some of his most famous ones. In the 1980s he worked in sculpture and photography and hosted Andy Warhol’s TV and Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes on TV.
