Our country is lucky enough to have universal healthcare. This means we pay for our healthcare through the taxes we pay. We think this system is smart and effective. Our health is what keeps us alive and having easy access to healthcare without the stress of payment makes for a better living environment. There are some healthcare sections that don’t provide a free service, but private insurance can help with the costs.

Health Insurance was developed in 1957 in Canada nation wide, that is when the all of the provinces and government came together and decided to create and pass a bill called "Hospital Insurance and Diagnostic Services Act". The whole purpose of this bill was either to cost share or reimburse a minimum of 50% of the costs specified for those services. However, prior to the "Hospital Insurance and Diagnostic Services Act", healthcare in Canada was mostly private funded but in 1947 the province of Saskatchewan's government unveiled a universal healthcare plan. British Columbia along with the province of Alberta followed in Saskatchewan's footsteps and introduced a similar plan a few years later which resulted in nation wide universal healthcare being created. We chose to include this into our Padlet because it is important for people to understand and be educated on how exactly our Health Insurance system works, and it's dynamics.

Website #3: The Different Types of Health Care Coverage

How health insurance works in Canada is there are three main different types of health care/health insurance coverage in Canada. The three types of coverage are one, Universal Healthcare which is the regular coverage we all know. But there is also workplace benefits, which obviously depends on if you are employed and who your employer is and lastly Personal Health and Dental Insurance. The Universal health care coverage is the basic coverage that everyone knows about and apart of where our deducted tax money goes too. For workplace benefits/coverage, the coverage you get as previously stated varies from employer to employer and the type of work you do but this is a type of coverage where the employer will help cover any expenses that may occur that the government may not pay for. This type of coverage is also more often less expensive as well as being able to design and choose what kind of coverage you would like to have to fit ur personal needs. Lastly Personal Health and Dental Insurance are really not far off from how workplace benefits work but you will generally see more people choose this plan that are no longer working whether they're retired or unemployed, or those who still work but run their own business, or who have had healthcare plans but now are non-valid/expired. We think that this information surrounding the different types of Health Insurance Coverage provided above would be very useful to someone who is currently seeking a new Health Insurance plan or to change it. If they are unclear on the different types, they can take this information and utilize it when going through with selecting a plan.

If you or someone you know are currently seeking a Healthcare Insurance plan or to change ur plan then this might be a good video to watch. In this video, this lady will walk you through the three different kinds of Health Insurance coverage there is, define them further and help you select what the right plan for you will be. Why we decided to include this video in particular into our Padlet is because selecting which coverage is best for you and the whole process prior to selecting which coverage is best for you can be very overwhelming and also very confusing. For those who are confused and overwhelmed even for those who aren't, we believe this video can be a very useful tool to help select what kind of coverage to get which can reduce stress.

In this video, the gentleman speaking will be going over the terms and vocabulary found associated within Health Insurance rather than Health Insurance itself. He goes over the terms Copay, Deductible, Premium, Co-Insurance, and Individual Oop Max and how all of these different terms can differentiate depending on the plan you have or coverage. Along with explains how the costs work for both yourself, and the Insurance Company. We think that this video would be extremely beneficial to everybody and the reason why we say this is because every body should know, and understand what they are signing up for along with know every part of their insurance plan and know what all these terms are associated within there plan and what they mean. Because a lot of people today will just sign papers or sign up for things unknowingly of what some things mean and this isn't something people should mess around with. So this is very important.

1. I think the one thing that we learned from our topic that surprised us the most really how far Health Care and Health Insurance has come. With our current generation we've always been fortunate enough to have our health expenses covered and we don't think people of this generation really realize that at one point health care was not free and that people had to pay for everything.

2. One real life example of how this topic is relevant to the both of us is that we both currently have jobs where our employer offers their own Health Insurance coverage and we should really take what they have to offer into consideration.

3. We think the most important piece of information to pass on to a family member or friend would be to consider and explore all of their options that is available to them in order to select a Health Insurance policy that would best suite them.
