Andy talked a lot about how to accommodate the needs of a student with special needs. He said it's always important to treat the students the same and allow them to be assessed in the general education classroom as they have full rights. He also mentions that when working with special needs students it's important to get to know the student and understand his background and previous experiences. By doing this it allows you to modify the lesson to fit their individual needs. I also learned that to make the student meet the long-term goals there needs to be multiple short-term goals leading to the long-term goal. Breaking up the students learning into short-term goals allows the student to better understand what they are learning and have a higher chance of retaining the information. Towards the end of the video, I liked how he stressed how important teaching is and how much of an impact teachers make on the lives of the students.

In the video with Dean Steen I learned many valuable things. The first thing I learned was how she said assessment in class is mainly going to be observation and the "day-to-day" things of what you notice. It's not just the paper and pencil assessments and it's important that you pay attention to each of the students learning development and abilities. When I become a future teacher I am going to do lots of small group work as she states it's important for student success and had multiple benefits. I liked she told us about the importance of grouping students based on their learning abilities. She said that in the classroom you will have some students who excel in some things and others who do not. Pair the students up accordingly by grouping one of the students who excel in the content area with someone who doesn't. This will allow the students to work with one another and allow the student who is struggling some support from their fellow peers. She really persuaded and better prepared me for becoming a teacher as she said that teachers are the change. They shape the future because they teach the students who are our future.

TJ mentioned in the video how he works "smarter not harder". He says the first thing that you have to do as a beginner teacher is to start off slow with small chunks and work with it until you get comfortable then you add more and more until it becomes routine. Find things that will take the less effort to do, and make the biggest impact on the students. I really agree with all he is saying as I think this will make my classroom run more smoothly if I take it layer by layer. He also stresses the importance of getting to know the students and their families and set a good communication system up with them. I thought it was pretty cool how he as a principle said he would go up to the newer teachers and ask them about their students and what they are interested in/ backgrounds. I like this as it will keep the teachers in check and make them learn about the students more.

After watching the video I learned many things on how to teach and manage younger students. She is a kindergartner teacher and she said that the best way she asses her students is through hands on activities and she walks around and makes notes of the students work. She said that this is the best way to asses her students because they have short attention spans. I liked the idea that she mentioned of using little tool kits for the students where she would put all of the students supplies so they can access it easily and efficiently. I already knew a little about the importance of working with your co-workers as they will help support you as a new teacher. You have to be engaged with the students at all time and to "never be on your phone". Students need to see you and only you and its your responsibility to give them the attention that they need. The last thing I learned was how to always have a positive attitude each and everyday no matter what problems you may have outside of school. Its selfish of teachers to have bad attitude in the classroom and unprofessional.

Kelly tines defined assessment as "any time of your life where you have a goal and you have to assess yourself to complete that goal" I really liked what she said as this makes total sense and I realized as a future teacher the importance of understanding each of the individual student learning goals and supporting them to help meet the goal. I also agreed how she said assigning to much homework will actually negatively affect the students learning. The learning happens in the classroom and everything assigned doesn't need to be for a grade. If you establish good relationships and procedures with the students they will do the work even if its not for a grade and this can be used to assess the students. I liked the term she used "Life Long Learner" and said a great teacher is one who is always learning and improving their teaching skills.

As a future teacher I learned lots of information regarding how she assess her sped students. She said the easiest way is to you checklists and behaviors sheets that shows the students learning data. This data will show the strengths and weaknesses of the students and then you can see how to help support the student better. She also mentions the importance of communication with the families of the students and working with them. In reading the way to assess students the best is to do individualized reading where she can see the mistakes the students make and help them correct it as they read. Also by asking questions to further their understanding of what they are learning.

Christina talked about how in elementary the students are assessed the day they enter the classroom and it continues each and every day. Its important to understand how the students are feeling and how willing the are wanting to learn the information. As a future teacher I think I will incorporate lots of hands on activities and lessons where the students have to be actively engaged in the lesson. She also points out the benefits of using positive feedback and reinforcement. You will build better relationships with the students by using positive feedback because it will prompt them to continue to do well.

I really liked how she mentions the use of exit tickets for how she assess her students. I have always like this assessment strategy and plan on using it often in my future classroom. She says by using exit tickets you can understand the learning of each student individually and its quick and easy. She mentions that new teachers typically tend to assign to many things that they have to grade and will get overwhelmed if they are grading all of the work the students do. To help solve this problem use group discussions, turn and talks, sticky notes. I also will be using her idea of how teaching needs to be fun. Teaching doesn't always have to be the same thing and its the teachers job to create fun and creative activities for the students.

This allows for all the students to respond at a high rate and allows you to understand if the students are understanding the material. What I found important was how he said that before you assess the students make sure you understand what you are assessing them about. Make the interpretation or inference of what you are assessing so you can provide the most proficient assessment.

Tabatha told me lots of valuable information which I will use as a future teacher. At the Pre-K level it's somewhat challenging to assess the students but she mainly assesses the students by observation. These observations will allow you to understand how you need to adjust the lesson to promote higher-level learning. The biggest thing I learned was when instructing Pre-K students it's important to have a good routine and stick with it. This gives the students structure and will help manage the classroom and make it run more smoothly. I really thought it was cool how she was the national teacher of the year in 2020. The advice she gave me was to set up a good form of communication between the students' families and parents.
