I believe this quote relates to Walter because its a poem about being determined and that's everything Walter is. When the author of this poem said "we take responsibility for our own lives". I thought of when Walter said he wanted to start something for himself and not be working for someone. He was determined to make that happen. Which is why i chose this poem to relate him too, because it seems like this author is determined like Walter.

I think the theme of the story can be class/money. I think apart of the theme is money doesn't mean everything for on generation but for another it means everything, so like 2 different generations can value different things. Mama: “Son, how come you talk so much ‘bout money?” Walter: “Because, it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom use to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it.” pg 74. This quote shows that Walters generation values money while mama's values other things like freedom. Mama is trying to tell him that its not all about money and there's more to life.
