PLOT

Theseus, duke of Athens, is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta, with a four-day festival of pomp and entertainment. He commissions his Philostrate, to find suitable amusements for the occasion. Egeus, an Athenian nobleman, marches into Theseus’s court with his daughter Hermia, and two young men, Demetrius and Lysander. Egeus wishes Hermia to marry Demetrius (who loves Hermia), but Hermia is in love with Lysander and refuses to comply. Egeus asks for the full penalty of law to fall on Hermia’s head if she flouts her father’s will. Theseus gives Hermia until his wedding to consider her options, warning her that disobeying her father’s wishes could result in her being sent to a convent or even executed. Hermia and Lysander plan to escape from Athens the next night and marry in the house of Lysander’s aunt. They make their intentions known to Hermia’s friend Helena. Hopping to regain his love, Helena tells Demetrius of the elopement that Hermia and Lysander have planned. At the appointed time, Demetrius stalks into the woods after his intended bride and her lover. Helena follows behind him.
I think William Shakespeare wanted that the reader enter on a fantasy world with the characters.

SCENE

ACT IV, SCENE II

At Quince’s house, the craftsmen sat somberly and worry about their missing friend Bottom. Having last seen him shortly before the appearance of the ass-headed monster in the forest, the craftsmen worry that he has been felled by this terrifying creature. Starveling suspects that the fairies had cast some enchantment on Bottom. Flute asked if they will go through with the play if Bottom does not return from the woods, and Peter Quince declares that to do so would be impossible, as Bottom was the only man in Athens capable of portraying Pyramus. The sad craftsmen agree that their friend was the wittiest, most intelligent, and best person in all of Athens.

He wrote this play between 1594 and 1596.
Hermia: Was the name of an ancient Athens girl.
Hippolyta: Is a Latinized version of the Greek girl name.
It means "releaser of horses".
Theseus: Is a Greek name. It means "intuition".
Helena: Derived fron the Greek. It means "moon".
