What is my question or my initial challenge for this unit?

My challenge for this unit is to get the attention of the kids and make them like reading. This could be a great challenge, because in my opinion, usually, kids don´t like reading and don´t know the benefits that having a reading. After all, schools make kids read as an obligation and not as something to have fun with (something said by many people and with some studies such as the one above), because of this, kids have already something in mind, and making it change, could be a great challenge to face in this unit.

I believe that this question is relevant because many kids have in mind that reading is boring and dont give them a real oportunity to enjoy reading and make their creativity blow, also that reading, according to markhampubliclibrary.ca have other positive effects that maybe kids can develop, such as punctuation, english vocabulary, because we are going to show them english short stories, and more knoledge. With all this said, this unit is very relevant because of all the benefits that can have reading and also that in the world there are books that anyone could like, making this unit, something that we should work on.

I can gather information from google or internet resources, because nowadays, Google has all the information that people need (there are many websites you can visit telling you that the internet is a faster way of getting information and have many other useful tools, like the one above if you want to read it), you can find interviews, books, scientific information that have evidence to support what we need, and techniques that could be useful to learn to capture the attention of children, because of this, these resources can make problem-solving entertainingly showing short stories that they can be interested in, and make that they started reading books or exploring this area independently and not forced by the school.

My hypothesize is that I could make students try reading independently, motivating in many ways such as knowing their likes, advising them books, and not making them read as an obligation (between other, that are being explained on the website above) because one of the main problems that explain why do students do not motivate on reading English literature, is because of the obligation that makes the school, making them explore what is to read, and then, making them decide on what they like, without also telling them all the information that they could be interested in, and making sure that in the end, students read by their one English literature.

Evidence 2 (The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe)

The book "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe has managed to show me many things from short stories, in addition to giving me a different experience than other books that I have been able to read. Reading this book and creating a text commentary, I was able to see the writing style at the time and the things that the author wanted to show in his book, such as the feelings of horror, revenge, and hate. Something that made it very difficult for me when reading this story and then being able to write my text commentary was the interpretation that I had to give it, being a short story, it does not give many details and leaves you to personal interpretation, that's why with a little research on google and examples of pages from this, I was able to better interpret the story, so this source was quite useful and reliable, sometimes maybe the best source is to try it for yourself. Now based on the unit, this story or "evidence" was useful because I realized that this story is perfect for those people who like horror stories, so if we show it to a person who likes You will surely like this theme, plus it allows you to interpret many things that happen in the story, such as the purpose of the cat with the spot on its chest, or why the author created a character at the beginning he loved animals and then I transform him into a deranged person who took it out on them, things like that make reading entertaining in this regard. After saying all this, I can say that this is quite reliable to encourage reading, because as I said before, this story left me with a lot to interpret, leaving me with a feeling of curiosity about it that encouraged me to read short stories, but not only me, but also my groupmates and those with whom I made our text commentary were also left with those sensations, therefore if this book were to be expanded to Chilean children who like terror, they could reach be encouraged to read.
In conclusion, after having written a text commentary and having read this book, I can say that I have progressed in my interpretation of these stories, something that I have not developed very well, but that I can now understand better, and apart from this, I can faithfully recommend someone who likes terror, because it creates that sensation that a horror movie or a situation like that provokes, contributing to the objective of our unit, which would be to encourage Chilean children towards short stories.

Evidence 1 (Dagon by H.P Lovecraft)

The story "Dagon" by H.P Lovecraft shows us a story of a character who escapes from a military ship, but when he is wandering in the sea, his true story begins. This story was the one that most achieved that I tried to deepen the subject, but through reading and activity with questions, I managed to deepen more into the book. When I was making the guide, the purpose of the story, or at least the meanings it had, was very difficult for me, since I am not a person who can easily infer, I had to resort to other resources to be able to understand what was being told to me. By making a guide to better understand the story, I got a better understanding of this, and to evidence and trust my progress, compare this with the guides of my other colleagues and Google comments, which was always one of my main sources for this, and for all this that I mentioned, I managed to progress a little in this aspect that has always had difficulties, seeing it demonstrated in another story that I read in classes, such as in the book "The Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde. At this time I do not think that this story is indicated to encourage the reading of short stories in students or Chileans, this can become a bit complex, to begin with, and it would probably go to a more specific category if we want to encourage this type of reading, that's why I would recommend books that are easier to understand than this one, but at the end of the day, this book still makes you able to infer topics on your own so reading this type of book is still pretty good.
In conclusion, I managed to learn and further develop my ability to infer through guides, compare guides with my peers, and research, helping me to understand other stories that I later had to read, such as Oscar Wilde's "Selfish Giant", but at the same time, after all, I don't think it's a book that can encourage Chilean students to read short stories.

The book "The Selfish Giant" was one of the books that I enjoyed the most, a clear and basic theme, that depending on how you see it, you can infer many things. Through reading and activities in class, I was able to understand the story perfectly, because I already had a little practice with other stories. I managed to show my progress because I compared what I did in the activities with other classmates, knowing that the sources I used (the ideas of my classmates) were reliable because I coincided with many of them. This specific story was one of those that made me understand that although short stories give few details, they give enough for you to infer and let your creativity go, making me reflect on other stories I have read and their meanings, evidencing my progress in terms of short stories. Honestly, this is the story that I would most recommend to encourage reading, because it is easy to understand and quite entertaining, even for a very young audience that is just beginning to read, solving the biggest problem of the unit. Personally, I find that I did not have any difficulties with this story, it was an easy story to understand and to be able to infer things, which I personally liked, that is why I find that it is a very good solution to recommend this book so that students Chileans are encouraged to read.
