Like money for drinking when they can be eating instead. Through out the entire book the kids had to do the best they could to survive. They learned to handle money. They learned how to be a social norm.They learned that having their parents around was what brought them down. The siblings had each other however they themself brought to themselves what they needed. They would have never thought of betrayal. The entire book was about them run around how they believed they were running from bad people when in reality they were running around from the law. The entire book also consisted of abuse. Starting from the parents to the child by not raising them well. The parents abused the kids. To  Brian when he cracked his head open they didn't take him to the E.R.
For Lori they wouldn't provide her with glasses that she very much needed. As for Maureen they never took care of her the neighbors where the one to care for her. Lastly for jeannette they wouldn't give her braces. As well for when the children were sexually assaulted by their family members. As for the parents they assess each other. The mother to the father by not let him grow.
