Dr. Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist who's about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men soon develop an unexpected bond while confronting racism and danger in an era of segregation.

The movie touches various issues related to persistent problems in society. Although we have to understand that this film is set in the 60s and many things have changed today, many from our privilege think that things have improved, however, racism is not a problem that has ended, but rather it has evolved becoming “more bearable” for blacks.

The film highlights Dr. Shirley's existential dilemma of not feeling black enough, being judged and rejected by white people, and being criticized by his own community for not behaving like one of them, I think that's where you wonder so to what extent is a person worthy of being called black? Do you have to be faithful to the stereotypes socially created by other people's communities to belong to your own? So the fact that a black succeeds and has more privilege than other blacks makes him less black?

I think that the main problem "stereotypes" comes from here, many people judge a book by its cover or by what they have told us about it, forgetting the most important thing is the interior. However, the film not only criticizes white people but the black community itself for their double standards in seeing another black succeed.

The character development that Tony had is also something important to take into account since he represents the majority of people who believe they are liberal because, although they grow up with a doubt and opinion based on stereotypes towards certain types of communities, they do not reach be “utterly racist”. And despite the fact that they are not raised with purely conservative ideas, they are the clear example of the phrase "I have nothing against them, but the further away the better" and this is somewhat ironic because being a migrant should understand at least to some point the xenophobic and racist comments of white people.

For this reason, the scene at the beginning when he throws away the glasses used by black people is very important since it shows Tony's evolution because before living with Dr. Shirley he could not drink from the same glass as a black person and at the end he even invites him to spend Christmas with him and even gives him a place at the table with his family, because he is finally aware of his privileges by developing something that many human beings lack “empathy”.

NAYELI YINET LÓPEZ CUADRADO The movie has a very clear message: "No to racism" and I could see this message clearly when I realized that Tony Vallelonga had a lifestyle full of vices, he was rude, he didn't respect almost anyone, he hit and fought without thinking as a result, he treated people badly and even so, people respected him simply for being a "white". The complete opposite of Dr. Shirley, a pianist who took care of his language at all times, who had no vices, was very respectful, had a life to admire, was very talented and always thought of doing things correctly and not making anyone feel bad, but, this was useless because simply because of his skin color he was discriminated against and treated as the worst, even if he respected people, people didn't respect him, and this made him feel terrible about himself, because Dr. Shirley didn't feel included anywhere. First, he didn't feel accepted by other blacks for doing things that they generally don't do precisely because of discrimination, and he didn't feel included with "whites" either because he thought that they only went to see him to feel like "inclusive" people, that if they were to see a black person play the piano, they were automatically no longer racist, but deep down they didn't feel admiration for him as they did for other white-skinned artists. On the other hand, I would like to highlight that throughout the film I was able to see the different faces in the passage from racism to tolerance, for example, when at the beginning Tony throws away some glasses simply because two black men had drunk water in them, but, when he met Dr. Shirley, Tony began to accept that they are not bad people just because of their skin color, what's more, he began to feel empathy with them and especially with Dr. Shirley and his feelings, and this I could tell the times that Tony had to help Dr. Shirley out of trouble and even saved his life.It seems important to me to mention that the two of them taught each other several things, Tony taught Dr. Sherley to enjoy life a little more, not to give so much importance to people's comments, to be respected and even made him feel like he was part of his family . On the other hand, Dr. Shirley at the beginning treated Tony like a child, controlled him, taught him models, didn't let him smoke inside the car, made him return the rock he had stolen, made him control his language and also made him understand the difficult situation of the "blacks" and the exclusion they lived, giving him consent and making him value his life and his family much more. Finally, with what I mentioned above, I can say that the film is not only about giving a message against racism, but also teaches cultural diversity, and I find it incredible how the film teaches how two people with such different styles they can complement each other so well, learn from each other, improve as people and above all respect the differences of other people, because these differences make us unique and deserving of love and respect.

It is curious to see how from something as unpleasant as ambition can come the really good things like a great friendship. What I mean: Tony Vallelonga, a white man, clearly racist, chatty, somewhat rude and uneducated, ends up working for an excellent pianist of dark skin, educated and subtle, simply because in the midst of his work needs he was presented with a good offer that he had the opportunity to increase successfully. It must be recognized that Tony's love for his family is greater than his racism and by accepting to work for Dr. Shirley he unknowingly entered into a challenge with himself to "swim against the current" in an era where the most empathetic thing that exists is a book of help for lodging and restaurants for black people. The evolution of both characters throughout the film is simply incredible, on one side is Tony just realizing the amount of outrages that people have with those of dark complexion, realizing that he definitely does not reach such limit of evil and above all that the person with whom he has shared in a car the last days does not deserve so much contempt and so much cruelty. On the other side we have Shirley who is not experiencing anything that has not happened to him before, he understands that his talent is not enough when the crowd is blinded by hatred disguised as subtlety. However, in the midst of all this he is also in the process of learning to give himself his true worth instead of sinking into the conformity and sadness he has been in for so long and how he himself says "being a bit blacker".

The friendship between Don Shirley and Tony Lip is a very clear example of how people can change, even when the outlook is not very good. Both are two very normal people with two very different lifestyles, on the one hand, Don Shirley leads a lonely life, resigned to the contempt of others for his skin color, even when he is an important person. And on the other hand, Tony Lip leads a very social life with a family that is mostly racist. When these two worlds come together, at first nothing good was expected, but in the end, it is surprising how Tony Lip, who at first did not want to submit to being an assistant to a black person, decides to risk his money, so as not to make Don Shirley have a bad time. I think Tony's change should be an example for all those who still have this kind of prejudice or stereotype toward people of color. After all, "white" is also a color, and behind our skin of different colors, there are people, people who have every right to tell their own story, without anyone telling it for them. Racism is one of the ways in which human beings wear out their capacity and social ability and use their time to violate the freedom of a person and in turn, steal their own freedom by being a prisoner of their prejudice, and likewise lose themselves from the emotions and situations that life has.

This film is quite interesting, because in this film we are shown multiple problems, as the story continues these same problems are solved, thus generating a true friendship or perhaps a strange friendship considering the time in which they find themselves.

Continuing with the idea of the different problems, we can find the great difference of social classes, at one point the film stopped dealing with the difference between white people and black people, but because of Shirley, specifically the social class he has, At a certain moment Shirley stopped being part of one of these two parts, so to speak, it was not what black people were used to, so for them, he was not part of this, and for white people there was the main reason of his skin color, thus generating discrimination towards him.

Something that changed completely was Tony's friendship with Shirley, at the beginning it was not a good thing, given the time and the way Tony's family judged him, it was obvious that a friendship with Shirley was not going to be generated so easily, and Shirley's way of acting is for me the most interesting, because it was in a certain part correct with her way of acting, and obviously it was not the most logical reason to play his piano, his music in events where more discrimination existed, trying to generate a change in the way of thinking of the people, something that perhaps did not work in society, but with his great friend Tony who left aside the prejudice of his family and ended up inviting his friend to spend Christmas with his family and not in his house all alone.

Taking into account the point of View given in the movie i would Say that It really Changes the script between the Relation between races and how Tony and Shirley interact using the context (Tony) being a persona who grew up in a family really racista, and Shirley who didn't had a family that could teach him all the social context that his tome of skin Had,at the end of the movie when Shirley didn't could entre to the show,It really show us how the skin Tone was so attached yo the perception of the persons, my opinión about the movie Is that It Is food example of how the Deep was the racismo in the 60s and how even with that context Tony could change His mind

In this movie, we can see how was the racism in the 60' and how the people were to be with the black people.
The contrast of this movie is obvious, with the issue that the viewers can see how people of different skin color can interact and understand that both of them are humans, improving them knowledge for being a better person.
Also, show us that all people have the same capacity for doing activities as well and that someone can teach you how to do it.
We can see also, how the society was accustomed to deny black people just for being black people and beyond, that the withe people used to be scared of black people.
In this way, the scene, when the protagonists stop because of the car, and the Doctor noticed that all black farmers were looking him and they were impressed by the issue that He was the boss and the withe person was the driver.

"Green Book" is a movie that shows the segregation between black and white people. It's not a new topic, but this film is special because its nuanced plot revolves around the friendship between Tony V. and Don Shirley, two men very different who learn from each other at the end.

A part of the movie that caught my attention was when Don Shirley told Tony that he didn’t live like the rest of the black people, but he wasn't enough as a white person, so he didn't know what kind of social group he belonged to. In that scene, I taught about how racial segregation can affect the well-being and peace of a person.

Don Shirley was accepted as a musician, but he was rejected as a person and it's related to the value of a person in that age, not as a person with good feelings or actions, but as a significant person in the economy. However, racial segregation was the strongest idea in those years and whoever was black couldn't get the minimum way of respect from people white. In spite of Don Shirley was a wonderful pianist when he wasn´t playing the piano, he wasn´t important to people who paid for his concerts.

This movie makes us reflect on how we treat others and what would be the correct way of doing that. So, we can start to think that all of us are humans and we deserve respect and a decent treatment.

Okay to start, i would like to emphatize in how Dr. Shirley was displayed and how it was pretty well recreated on the movie. The detail i would like to the detail how like you recall is the difference between doctor Shirley and Tony what is a completely educated in high class president and the other is a low class not educated italian American dillards they are two different Worlds And they have hit different perspective outside outside of society this is what makes the relationship so strong that is what creates strong bond between both of them. Another thing is how they are so different but yet so similar at the same time both of them have experienced racism, and they know how it feels to be mistreated by american society; we have to keep in mind that they live in the 1950's a time where racism was a part of a daily basis for both of their cultures and people.
Furthermore, racism is a big issue that's being shown on the movie, however there is a small detail, there is a part where Tony goes to black people bar, and he is asked if he is a cop, so he answers, "Do i look Irish?", which could be another racist expression.
Finally, i want to take a to account a issue that goes behind the lines, where yes, Dr Shirley is playing for really high class people and not only that, but in the deep south of the U.S, the issue is that no matter the fact he is not being discriminated by the assistants of his shows, he is not playing for them beacause he wants to, or because people is PAYING to see him, but just as a entertainment factor on dinnners and some other kinds of gatherings, like he is a background character, and well he is just there to "play some music for lighting up the environment" not there beacause people wants to see him play, why? sadly just of his skin color.

The meaning of the green book… The green book is a guide for traveling around all the United States without “having problems” messing up in the “no-negroes” zones, so that’s why in that book we can observe that they have the green route where you can find plenty of “activities” to do without being annoying to the white people, those activities include: the service of restaurants, hotels and even the attractions in general. We could observe that during the movie when Tony and his “hidden passenger” were sleeping in different hotels where in one of them there were just black people; and the funny fact is that the Mr. didn’t fit there because he was so fancy to be black, but at the same time he was so black to have privileges… The hotel where Tony was sleeping was a common hotel for the year… Another important spot in the green route is the restaurant where they went after they got kicked out from the restaurant in the theater. So that’s what the green book is about, racism and segregation for traveling without get a problem with the white people.

Talking about the lives of Tony and the doctor, it made me think Talking about the lives of Tony and the doctor, it made me think one thing: even though Tony was not very educated, was of low income and did not have high ranking jobs he was more respected by white people than the doctor, even though he was a very educated man, played the piano, had a lot of money, wore expensive clothes and so on, he was simply not appreciated because of his skin tone. And in the movie I think the doctor is the one who mentions it: "with money you can't reach people's hearts". Even though they were completely different people they had something in common: they had lived in a constant struggle to remain in society: Tony on his side, looking for money for his family and the doctor making his way through the thousand stereotypes of what a black man should do with his life, how to behave and even what kind of music to play. And that is perhaps what brought them together. Also that each taught the other valuable things and brought pleasant experiences to the other. A great movie by the way
