The Kraton (also spelled keraton or karaton) or the Palace of Yogyakarta, is a grand complex that was meticulously planned to reflect the Javanese cosmos. Yogyakarta Palace is located at Jl. Rotowijayan Blok No. 1, Panembahan, Kraton District, Yogyakarta City, Yogyakarta Special Region. The distance of Yogyakarta Palace from the city center is 500 meters.

This elegant complex of pavilions was constructed based on ancient beliefs, of the connection between the God, human and the natural realms. Each feature holds a special symbolic meaning related to the Javanese worldview, who consider the importance of Mount Merapi and The Indian Ocean.

The Kraton was built in the center, facing directly north towards the majestic Mount Merapi. Its south side was built facing the Indian Ocean, believed to be the abode of Kanjeng Ratu Loro Kidul, the Queen of the South Seas and the mystical consort of the Sultan.
This splendid example of traditional Javanese architecture has no equal. The basic and original layout of the main building of The Kraton began its construction during the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, in 1755 - 1756.

Other surrounding pavilions were then gradually expanded by the successor of the throne. The official symbol of the palace is named Praja Cihna. It depicts important elements that radiate a philosophical meaning. The Javanese lettering in the center is “ha” and “ba”, the acronym of Hamengku Buwana. The red is a symbol of courage and vigilance to value the truth, while the gold is a symbol of majestic splendor.

A green square called Alun-alun Lor or the north square is set to be the front side of the palace, with large banyan trees guarding its center, named Kyai Dewandaru and Kyai Wijayandaru. Alun-alun Kidul or the south square is located at the other side of the palace’s north-south invisible horizontal axis.

This palace was designed to be more than just a royal residence. It was built to be a focal point of the Sultan’s entire kingdom. When a sultan passed away, the cortege will leave by the southern gate and head its way to the royal cemetery located in Imogiri.

Name : Rahayu Saputri 29

South square or Kidul square is a landmark in the form of a field that cannot be separated from the Yogyakarta Palace. The people of Yogyakarta call South square with the name Alkid which stands for Alun-alun Kidul. As the name implies, the location of South square is on the south or the back side of the Yogyakarta Palace and is in the beteng area. The existence of South Square is also on a philosophical axis that is drawn straight between the Gilig Golong Monument to the Krapyak Stage.

What Can You Do In Alkid Yogyakarta?

1. Doing A Game Of Masangin

2. Renting Tandem And Odong-odong Bikes

3. Relax While Eating Culinary in Alun-alun

One of the characteristics of the South Square of Yogyakarta is the existence of two banyan trees called supit urang and given a round fence so it is also known as Ringin Kurung. The fence of the two banyan trees are in the form of bars with the image of bows and arrows as a symbol that an adult girl or man, akil balik, has dared to release her heart to the opposite sex.

Masangin Tradition in South Square of Yogyakarta Masangin is a tradition that is the attraction and uniqueness of South Square of Yogyakarta and often makes tourists curious. The Masangin tradition, which is related to the myth of twin banyans, is carried out by walking between two banyans with their eyes closed. Even though it sounds easy, it turns out that many people fail to do it even though they have tried many times.

The myth of twin banyans in the South Square of Yogyakarta is also getting stronger with the belief that in the middle of the tree there is a talisman to repel reinforcements to repel the enemy. That said, during the colonial period when the colonial army passed through the middle of the tree, their strength was immediately lost. From there came the belief that whoever managed to cross the two banyans was able to refuse reinforcements.

Elfina Novita Fidela / 09 XI ULP

One of the bridges that can be said to be in the centre of Jogja is Sayidan Bridge. Sayidan Bridge crosses over a river that is quite familiar to the citizens of Jogja, namely the Code River, which has its headwaters in Mount Merapi and empties into the Opak River. The name Sayidan is come from the Arabic word Sayid, because it is believed that in the past one of the villages around this bridge was inhabited by descendants. It is on the south side of the west side of the bridge that Sayidan Village is currently located. Sayidan Bridge itself based on one of the reliable sources of historical information was once an entrance gate to the Ngayogyakarya Hadiningrat Palace area from the east side, this can be proven by the existence of a bentar gate building which is still well preserved. This gate is said to have served as a boundary between the two palaces in Jogja until recently, namely the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate and the Pakualaman Palace.

Sayidan Bridge is located east of the city centre, about 700m away. If you walk, it will only take 10 minutes from the city centre.

You can take pictures on the bridge or come to Sayidan Village. The village attracts tourists with its colourful walls and roofs. If you want to come to this village, you can come during the month of Ramadan because they hold a Tiban Market where they sell various foods and also crafts that they make themselves.

Husna Cantika / 12

Tugu Yogyakarta is a monument used as a symbol of the city of Yogyakarta. This monument was built by the Dutch government after the previous monument collapsed due to an earthquake that occurred at that time. The existence of this monument is also a benchmark for Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I to determine the direction facing the top of Merapi during meditation.

In detail, the Tugu Jogja building was originally built in the form of a cylindrical pole that cones upwards. The base is a circular fence while the top is round. The height of the monument initially reached 25 meters. But currently, Tugu Jogja has a unique shape, which is a pole that reaches 45 meters high with a circular base with a diameter of 28 meters.

Tugu Yogyakarta is one of the most popular tourist attraction spots when visiting the city of Jogja.

Ni Made Sinta Wati / 26

Nusa Penida is a small tropical island sided with a neighboring islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, located 12 km on the South-East of Bali, Indonesia. Nusa Penida's population is around 50 thousand. Despite its small size, the island holds stunning natural beauty and is a popular destination for travelers seeking adventure and incredible underwater life. One of Nusa Penida's main attractions is its beautiful beaches with views of limestone cliffs towering over the blue sea. Beaches such as Angel's Billabong, Broken Beach and Kelingking Beach are some of the places on the island that offer spectacular panoramas. Some local shops selling refreshments right on the beach make for wonderful chill-out spots with sunset views.

Apart from its charming beaches, Nusa Penida is also known as a paradise for divers and snorkelers. The waters around the island hold an incredible underwater biodiversity, including various species of tropical fish, beautiful coral reefs, and even manta rays and large stingrays. Among Penida’s most famous temples is Goa Giri Putri, a Balinese Hindu temple set within a limestone cave in the village of Karangsari. It sees a steady flow of pilgrims from the Bali mainland visiting to pay their respects and ask for holy water and blessings. Despite its growing popularity among tourists, Nusa Penida still retains its natural charm and invites visitors to preserve nature. Access to the island is still limited, but there has been infrastructure development to better welcome tourists. Boats mostly depart for the Nusa islands from the Bali mainland from the Padangbai seaport in East Bali, but you can also hop on a boat from Sanur. Most visitors usually stop at Lembongan and Ceningan first, then add a boat ride to Penida as an extended tour on their Nusa Islands trip. To get a beautiful sunset in Nusa Penida, I recommend visiting the place in the afternoon.

the charm of Karimunjawa islands tourism

Karimunjawa is a chain of islands stretching northwest 83 km from Jepara. Central Java. The archipelago is a cluster of 27 islands in the Java Sea. Only seven islands are inhabited. Coral reefs are a mixture of fringes, barriers and patches with bottom depths ranging from 15 to 40 meters. The name Karimunjawa is taken from the Javanese 'Kremun kremun saking tanah Jawi' which was addressed by one of the Wali Songo (Nine Saints who introduced Islam on the island of Java) to describe how far this mini archipelago is from the island of Java, precisely from Semarang and Jepara. Made up of 27 islands, this mini archipelago is a national marine park and a treasure trove for marine life lovers. Here can be found protected coral reefs (very colorful plateaus and flats in deep and shallow waters), secluded and quiet white beaches.

Karimun Jawa Marine National Park has an area of 110,000 ha and is located 90 km northeast of Jepara in Central Java. You'll find mangrove forests and coastal forests. The park is named after the largest island of Karimun Jawa. The vegetation consists mainly of mangrove and coastal forests, although there is some lowland rainforest on Karimun Jawa. Most of the island is surrounded by sandy beaches and coral reefs at the edges. Fresh water is limited to a few small wells and streams in the forest on Karimun Jawa. A number of endemic animals live on the island while turtles lay their eggs on the beaches. The average tidal range is 92 cm.

The Karimunjawa Islands, not known as a marine nature reserve near Ambon and Manado, have beautiful beaches, coral reefs and scenic seascapes. Corals seem to bloom in the garden, with a variety of shapes and colors that are amazing for fishermen and marine plants. It is located 90 km from Jepara and can be reached by boat "KM. Adison I & KM Kota Ukir", the only ferry connecting Karimunjawa and Jepara. The resort offers amazing diving and snorkeling trips for all types of divers from beginners to experienced. Karimunjawa also has a variety of tourism activities, namely mangrove trekking, diving, hill trekking, religious tourism, and sunset watching. Karimunjawa is a tourist destination favored by both local and foreign tourists. Fringing reefs, atolls, shipwrecks and a variety of different species make diving in Karimunjawa an unforgettable adventure.

BISKI SOLIHASTAMI /6

Wediombo Beach, Gunungkidul.

For nature lovers, in this case, they must not miss all the beautiful beaches located in Gunung Kidul Regency. The most recommended one perhaps is Wediombo Beach! The location is in Jepitu Village at Girisubo Sub-District. In terms of name, “Wedi” means sand while “Ombo” means vast. As the name suggests, the beach is known for its vastness. Aside from that, the beauty is undoubted.
Access to Wediombo Beach is good, the terrain is quite easy. From the city center, just head towards Wonosari. Continue east past Agrososro market. The journey continues until Junction Three after Wonosari Market, then turn right via Baron Beach. Around 10 kilometers, there is a T-junction towards Wediombo Beach. You just need to follow the directions given until Jepitu Market. Finally, turn right at the Jepitu Market T-junction. You will reach the parking lot of Wediombo Beach. Traveling at Wediombo Beach will not drain your pocket. The parking fee is only Rp3,000 for motorcycles and Rp5,000 for cars. The entrance ticket for Wediombo Beach is only Rp5,000.
Wediombo Beach has well-maintained toilets, showers and prayer rooms. There is also a culinary center along the road to Wediombo beach. Enjoy a variety of Gunung Kidul specialties, such as tiwul and fried grasshoppers.
So, what should tourists do once arriving Wediombo Beach? Most of them would get in the water right away, for sure. That means swimming becomes the best thing to do there. Have no worries. Even kids can enjoy the activity safely. The chunks or coral rocks protect some parts of the sea from big waves, after all. No wonder, it creates a natural pond where tourists can take a bath and swim comfortably. After swimming and playing water, tourists must explore the shoreline and collect some good photos either using their camera or smartphone. Moreover, many good objects are worth a photo shot! These include the coral reefs, which are located either on the shoreline or sea. Another wonderful object to capture would be the sunset! However, tourists must come at the right time, which is during dusk or in the afternoon. For those who don’t carry a camera, they can simply conduct beach walking. Thanks to the vastness of the shoreline. Another thing that tourists must do in Wediombo Beach is camping. As long as visitors carry their tent and other required equipment, they can spend the night in that area comfortably. The coastal nuance is quite relaxing! At night, moreover, it is possible to conduct a BBQ party with either friends or families! Here is the good news. Some villagers sell seafood in that location, so tourists can buy some and grill them later at night.
So those are some of the things about Wediombo Beach. I hope you guys can visit it sometime. That’s all from me, and thank you.
