The Pedestrian was a interesting short story that gave us an inside look at life in a world of A.D. 2053. It was alluring to read since it was very detailed and it allowed the reader to feel in merged on the story. I love how it included dialogues since it makes it more lively. - Maria Bueno

The story is interesting because it talks about how easily a TV can have an impact on society.
The author also warns the reader the possibilities of losing our humanity if we keep doing things the way we do. For example, in the text it talks about how no one leaves their home when they return from work, and what impact this has on society.

I believe that the story is an interesting analogy that describes a version of a dystopian society living in 2053. I personally can identify closely with the main character, Mr Mead, as he is an independent, free soul wandering around on the streets. Submerged in his thoughts, he does not even realize at first that he encounters a police car. I think that sometimes I act like this too, I withdraw to my own bubble and do not realize what is going on around me even though I know that my surroundings are active and I should be reactive.
I think that the short story portrays society in a very critical way, as it shows how everybody is closed in, living in their own cold homes, not reacting to their surroundings, submerged in their limited thoughts. Yet Mr. Mead stands out, he is too, reserved but reflective and observing. The short story highlights the lack of understanding and reflection in the society, the lack of communication and a sense of community, when even social services are "has nothing soft in it". I mean, how are we supposed to read about justice when reflection is branded as a "Regressive Tendency", and authorities are inhumane?
It makes me question whether our society is going this way too, and if it is, are we going to be this extreme?

I feel that the message of this short story is not too far off from reality, as many people are already staying inside due to technology. They are being less social, going out less. I do believe that at some point people will become so antisocial that it will b weird to see someone in the streets. I feel the story portraits how our society is going end like. Since Less and less people are going outside, it has become the rule that people cant go outside, and if they do they are send to jail for it. I also think this is a very scary society and I would not like to live in a society where u get punished for simply going outside. I think that when the story was written it was seen as a very fictional concept as everyone would go outside to play, hang with friends etc. Now the real life is becoming more close and close to the story.

Very interesting story that focuses on a specific habit of the character. The ending, however, is quite unexpected and certainly very unfair for the character as he is arrested because of walking in the street at night.

We clearly see a battle between the character against society.

When I first read the text "The Pedestrians" the feeling that first came to me was sadness. From my personal understanding, this story is set in a futuristic world in which everyone stays home to watch tv, and living the same boring life. The main character, Leonard Mead, is kind of like an outsider to this society as he reads instead of watch tv, is a writer, which no one else seems to be, and likes to take walks outside in the evenings for fresh air. This story saddened me because of how a man, who just enjoys to live life to his fullest and tries to enjoy the wonders of nature and books, would get arrested just because everyone else is "not like that". I do think that this is kinda of an over-exaggerated view on the future society, as I believe that even though we are more involved with technology now, we will always enjoy the wonders of the simple life.

This story shows the author's prediction of what the future society will be like.

No one walking on the street symbolized people who stop thinking about the meaning of their life. They rather spend time at home with their big screen than take a walk outside and feel their surroundings.

I agree that under the judgement of 1951's public value, the future life seems terrifying. Assessing by the value of 2019, I believe the majority still can't accept this life-style.

However, I want to say that any life-style, no matter weird or not, is a choice of our future generation. Just like we can't understand the conservative thoughts of medieval nans, people in the future may wondering why people in our ages spend time to take a walk outside.

Therefore, I think it is not our right to judge the quality of the future conditions. Everything happening in the future evolves from what is happening at this moment.

In conclusion, if anyone in the class who despise the life described in "The Pedestrian", I dare them to do something truly useful, such as being a politician, and build whatever the future you like.
