For us Italians, Christmas is a time to be together with our families, eat a lot, exchange gifts and even play some board games. We celebrate Christmas in 3 days: December 24 (Christmas Eve), December 25 (Christmas day and we Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus) and December 26 (saint Stephan).

To wait for Christmas in all Italy, we traditionally put up the Christmas tree from December 8th.

December 24th or even the days before, putting all the gifts under the tree and imagining that Santa Claus has passed.

To celebrate the New Year we make the dinner of the eve again on December 31st evening, we all wear red underwear that bring luck for the year that is a tradition.We all eat together, we play cards or bingo and we do the countdown to midnight.

This is my Christmas tree. It is tradition to wrap it in lots of lights, colored balls and some signs of our family.

It is tradition to make panzerotti all together, adults and children. Then only adults fry them, children eat them more.

Card game: the dead man.

Contrary to the name, it is a very fun game. Each player has 3 "lives". Cards are given to each player, with the possibility of exchanging cards with his neighbor. Once the round is over, the cards are turned over and the player with the lowest card loses a "life". Whoever loses the 3 "lives" is declared dead. If the dead man makes a player still in the competition talk to him, he takes a life from him and goes back to playing. Whoever eliminates all the players wins.

The Christmas holidays are special for me. On the evening of the 23rd my friends came to my house and we exchanged our gifts. On the 24th and 25th, however, we went to my grandmother's house on the 24th for dinner and on the 25th for lunch. On the evening of the 24th we usually eat rice with mussels, while for lunch on the 25th we always eat "lasagna". On the 26th we usually have lunch at our house, but this year my cousins weren't in Noicattaro on the 26th, so we set up a New Year's Eve lunch at our house. In the days between the 27th and the 31st I did my homework, and then on the 31st we celebrated my cousin Chiara's birthday. From the 1st onwards I went out in the evening with my friends but then I caught a cold. On the 6th, the day of the Epiphany, we had lunch at my aunt's house. Compared to last year, on the 30th I wasn't at home with my cousins but I went to a friend's house to play bingo and watch Juventus-Roma. At night my cousin and I saw some films: Marvel Christmas special, Home alone, in Italy we call the film “mamma, ho perso l’aereo!”, and many others.
