This is my favorite quote because it drives home the strength of Kathy's Hailsham relationships and how their common upbringing formed a permanent connection. Consequently, Ruth, looking up to the veterans' cool maturity, adopts many of the habits and attitudes herself. Kathy and her friends all have a struggle of letting go of their past and we see this in the huddling that they do in Legolas' quote as well as Ruth's collection in mine. In this quote, Kathy describes the veterans' 'possibles' theory. Although I do find the context of the situation interesting, I've been drawn to this quote because of its word choice.
