Elvis is wearing a striped shirt where four stripes are visible. The sharp, thick lines add a sense of confidence, boldness, and masculine effect to his Canadian tuxedo (denim on denim). This outfit was for the Jailhouse Rock video, so it makes sense that he's wearing a "fashionable prison suit (if that's even a thing?)." The thin lines on his denim honestly remind me of higher-class style. He's also making some fun lines with his body and dance moves!!

In this Grammy's outfit by Michael Jackson, he's wearing a bedazzled suit jacket over a white plain-textured shirt. His gloves are bedazzled with big studs, and the rest of the suit jacket is dark blue, bumpy, studs. The gold details are detailed with a tassled texture at the top, and more threaded on the diagonal piece in the front. This all-around beady, bumpy, glittery texture captures the light really well!

Holy hat! Clearly the main part of this outfit is the hat, I'm actually not sure what celebrity this is, but she's wearing a white basic top with ruffles at the end, to emphasize the probably tan colored hat. We can tell the hat is the main piece because of the large space it's taking up!

Blake Lively wore this dress to the Met Gala for tribute to NYC. These are complimentary colors with a blue green and red orange duo. It resembles the Lady of Liberty! Later on, she took off the gown and it revealed a monochrome copper/orange dress and sash underneath.

I am NOT a fan of Joey King, but this dress is pretty cool! It's optical illusion inspired, and the form is very 3d, wavy, and big. You can see the 3 big waves on the sleeves of the dress, complementing the illusion stripes on the rest of her dress. It's taking up a lot of space but you can tell there isn't a whole lot of fabric going on.

This costume is from the 2015 film Crimson Peak, and the pieceis a large dress coat that demonstrates a minimal but effective use of line. The main line in the costume is the large bow in the center of the dress that hangs down, elongating the actress's figure. There is also a creative use of line art on the shoulder ruffle that is flowing, organic, and flower-like, adding to the character's free spirit.

Scarlett Johansson wore a complete velvet look to the 2025 oscars, and you can see how the dress absorbs light here. There is clearly a ton of lighting coming from the right side, where you can see the highlights on the train of her dress and the hanging back top. Her velvet gloves in this picture are 90% engulfed by the left side of her dress, where the light isn't shining on it as much. You tell the material is velvet because her outfit absorbs light by the highlights and shadows of her dress.

Whenever we talked about space in relation to the stage, the first thing I thought about was Mother Ginger from The Nutcracker. Obviously, this is a huge costume, but the scale of this dress is different for every production, depending on where it is.

This dress, designed by Zuhair Murad, a Lebanese fashion designer, is a perfect example of line. It's a combination of horizontal lines all connecting at these curved lines by the hip. I feel like this dress makes the model look smaller at the waist while exaggerating her hips. As the lines run down the dress, they become more vertical, which I feel helps exaggerate her legs and make them look longer.

This is a unique piece of Haute Couture from Iris van Herpen Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2025-2026 collection. The fabric has LED lights in it, and the fabric is a type of special organza that makes it light, flowing, and reflective. The fabric of the dress reflects light so beautifully.

This is the amazing ball gown from Disney's 2015 live-action Cinderella. The costumes in this movie were fantastic and gorgeous, making it a top-five favorite costume for me. The costume represents color so well, because the blue color is so specifically chosen by the designer, and the dress has layers of purple, green, and dark blue underneath the main top layers. The bold color in this scene is also a good use of color isolation to make the costume and actress stand out.

This is a piece from the Chanel Fall/Winter 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection, which was Karl Lagerfeld's last show. The main suit has this black and white gingham pattern, and the large outer jacket has a black and white houndstooth pattern, making it an iconic look from Chanel. The look obviously uses a thick fabric that is kind of fluffy, furry, coarse, or perhaps tweed-like. The pattern and the fabric clearly demonstrate a textured look.

This is probably one of my top ten favorite costumes ever. This look is from Alice Through the Looking Glass, and this specific costume is a good demonstration of shape. There are many different shapes, such as the circles around the shoulders, large ovals for the pants, triangles, and squares for the waistcoat and tails. This costume is a 3D representation that creates an extravagant look with the volume forming the various shapes we see.

This is an amazing piece from Iris van Herpen's Fall 2025 Haute Couture collection. The look has the special flowing fabric that makes it look like air or water. The 3D sculpture work emerging from the bodies creates a unique form around the model. I think this amazing piece is one of my favorites from Haute Couture in recent years, and for the purpose of this assignment is a great visual representation of form.

This costume is from the first season of Bridgerton, and it is a good example of space. During the early 1800s, also known as the Regency period, women were wearing empire waistline dresses. Moving the waistline up under the bust allows for a more elongated figure, and the space is used differently on the body.

This dress represents the element of form through the 3D circular details. The inspiration for this look was a flower, meaning the designer took forms from the flower itself and implemented them into the dress. Her arms, waist, below the knee reflect petals where as her thighs and chest resemble the stem.

The woman's dress in this costume shows the element of light through reflection. The bottom 3/4 of her dress has these clear but shinny streamers, to resemble water. I would assume that whenever she moves the light catches these streamers and allows her to sparkle much like water would. She also has some green sequins within the flowers.

The two-toned shiny organza-type fabric over the skirt also uses light to create a magical, ethereal mood for her costume. But also, it is not too reflective that it distracts from the rest of the costume.

I thought Anne of Cleve's costume from the musical Six would be a great example of texture. This costume is made up of both fabrics, metals, and plastic: metal spikes and studs, faux fur, chains, sequins, and vinyl. This creates a very detailed texture with many layers. Also, on the shorts and sleeves, black fishnet fabric is layered over a shinier sequin(?) fabric to create a sort of "chain-link" texture.

This is an outfit Janelle Monae wore on a red carpet and it really illustrates the use of shape. The sharp, boxy, oversized shoulders go up to her ears making it appear as though she is just a body and head with out a neck. The use of shape her plays with the portrayal of her body as well as creating a more avant guard piece of clothing. The big top also contrasts from the mini skirt making her legs appear longer.

This illusion is especially prominent next to the fairy godmother-inspired look to the left, where the dark fabric around the sleeves and lapel absorbs light.

I chose this yellow dress to represent the design element-color, because throughout the first few seasons of the show, it was talked about how penelope hated her dresses because they didn't compliment her and her hair. the yellow is extremely bright on this actress, later on she starts wearing darker greens and and it matches the character better.

These costumes from the musical Wicked, do a great job of using texture throughout the costumes to show that these are people who live in a world that is not our own. The texture also creates a lot of whimsy and dimension adding to the "showiness" of the emerald city.
