I chose Health Insurance as in my 25 years I have seen how important it is to have health insurance. Here in Ontario we are very lucky to have OHIP. OHIP is Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which covers eligible residents of Ontario with OHIP cards. The video tells us that Medicare covers most health expenses but tells us what is also not covered. The video talks about what is covered through Medicare in hospital verse what you might need private insurance for to cover things within the hospital. The video talks about how each province has their own medical system and when moving to a new province you need to apply for new medical systems which can take months to get coverage. 

 

I choose this video as I feel it is very informative for people who are moving to a new province, or they are new to working and are undecided if they should get private medical insurance. I found it interesting that it can be a 3 month wait to get coverage with OHIP once you apply. This video focused on whether it is worth getting health insurance, explain what is and is not covered by Medicare.

It had a lot of information about the funding of the hospitals in Canada along with information on the long wait times for certain medical procedures here in Canada. 

 

I was very surprised that our Medical System is on a fixed budget, I really did not this I did not think that health care would have a budget as it is something, we all need. I was very surprised that people thought the United States Health Care System was better than Canada’s Health Care System as I personally feel as if here in Canada, we are very lucky. I just overall found this video very powering and informative on the Canadian Health Care System. This video was more of a comparison video on the two health care systems, Canada vs USA.

In the video it talks about how some health insurance have certain requirements for them to cover you. It also is recommending learning about what they have to offer as you want to be sure you are being covered for what you need.  This video also tells you to investigate pricing for each insurance company to be sure it is what you can afford. This video provides information on what to look for in an insurance company along with knowing what they have to offer, how much coverage you have, along with reminding us to check for reviews on the company. 

 

I found this video very helpful as some of the tips I would not have even looked out for, I would of just went online and found a company that I know well and went for that. I also was very surprised that without health insurance the average person spends about $900 a year out of pocket, I really thought it would be more, as I personally with out health insurance spend a lot more then $900 a year. It was interesting to know that there are also 132 health insurance companies out there, I can only name about 10 so when I am looking in future I will defiantly be digging deeper. This video was different from others as it is focused on what to look for in health care companies.

It explains how each province is different and has different rules on this. It goes into details on how long your study permit needs to be for you to be able to apply for medical coverage. Its interesting to hear the different requirements, also would be beneficial for International Students to know before applying for college or university. 

 

I chose this video as I think it is very important for international students to know what they need to do or must receive health care here in Canada. I was surprised that there was any kind of coverage as I had not heard of this before, which makes sense as Ontario does not offer any kind of coverage to international students. This video was very different from the other videos as it really is focused on medical coverage for international students

This website is updated regularly and is a good resource for families and individuals. 

I chose this website as I found it to have helpful links to different resources. I was surprised to see that there was somewhere to check wait times for medical services. I did not know this was something we could look up. This website is unique from the others as it just is more of a resource site does not really have a lot of information, just a place to find more information.

It explains that dure to Covid 19 and people needing better access to health care when they come to Ontario, that they would be waving the three-month waiting period for people to access OHIP coverage. They also released that with expiring OHIP cards, people will still be able to access health care.

 

I chose this website as it is important that we can inform people coming to Ontario that they will be able to have access to health care without a 3 month wait time as with Covid it is so unknown, and we need to be able to access proper care. I was very surprised that there was a wait time for OHIP coverage when you come to Ontario from another province, I thought maybe if you were from another country as they would have a bit more paperwork, but this is interesting to know. This website is different from the others as it is more of a news release on information of changes to the OHIP system.

I choose this site because it gives the opportunity to find multiple health insurance companies along with getting a free quote. I did not know that something like this was out there and I think it is very helpful to help find the best rate and company.

I chose this website as I find it extremely important that we all know what our health care system is. I liked that this site had all the different provinces and territories to learn more about the health care systems. This site is different from the others as it has a more wide approach to help understand the Health Care System in Canada.

I was very surprised about how different health care is everywhere and how many different health insurance companies there are out there.

I currently do not have any extended health insurance, and find myself spending a lot of money each month on medical expenses, so it will help me after school if i do not get a job with health insurance to find what is best for me.

Do your research on health care and insurance. there are so many options and differences that you need to educate yourself, before letting someone sign you up.
