We are researching and presenting on Dorothy Heights significant contributions to both the women's rights movement and the civil rights movement. We will explore how her leadership and advocacy paved the way for equality for women and African Americans during a crucial time in history.

How will we convey this topic?

We are going to construct a 3D cylinder-like, spinning display with 3 sections. One elaborating on Dorothy Heights herself, and the 2 other elaborating on impacts and what led up to those events.

How does this topic relate to the theme?

Our project heavily relates to this years theme, "Turning Points in History" because Dorothy Height's contributions marked a significant shift in the path of both movements, serving as a symbol for change and progress. Her efforts brought about essential moments that challenged societal norms and paved the way for greater justice. By exploring her impacts we can understand how her actions became turning points in history.

We are researching and presenting the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty, signed on February 2, 1848, ended the war between the United States and Mexico. By its terms, Mexico ceded 55 percent of its territory, including the present-day states California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming. The reason why we chose this topic was because of the long-lasting effects in Mexico and in the United States. We plan on creating a website describing the treaty and its long-term political and economical effects in Mexico and the United States.

The factors that contributed to the Compromise of 1877 were a lessening support (especially in the South) for the Reconstruction and its laws defending the Civil Right's of African Americans. In addition, there was ambiguity centered around the election of November 1876. Despite the Democratic nominee, Tilden being in the lead, there were accusitons of southern states forcing african americans to vote for Samuel J. Tilden. Not only that but tensions rose over this said fruad to the point of brawls in Florida, South Carolina, and Louisiana. In an attempt to resolve this issue, Congress implemented an electoral commision in where representatives of each side including a centrist Judge met to decide who would ultimately win. However, secret delibratins took place.

What are your ideas?

Our idea is to create an animatic documentary explaining the thoughts of the inventor, how one man created the Nobel prize, and a dangerous mining weapon in one fell swoop by adding clay to nitroglycerine

(Basically We're covering the after effects, in industrialization)

`How does this topic relate to this year's theme?

It is a turning point in the industrialization of mining, and the power of having a stable explosive that is more powerful than black powder. This led to the creation of more powerful explosives along with commonplace used ones like fireworks.

The Backstory Of Historically Black Schools of Higher Education originated after the ending of the Civil War, now that blacks were no longer enslaved they needed an education. But Up until around the late 1800s, black men and women did not have access to higher education due to them not being accepted at predominantly white schools (pwi's) such as Vanderbilt, University of Georgia, University of Alabama, etc. Up until around 1881, a man that goes by the name of Booker T. Washington came around and created the Tuskeege institute (now known as Tuskeege University) and is now known as the oldest Historically Black College/University (HBCU) in Alabama and one of the oldest hbcu's in America. And since then, Hbcu's have thrived, and has been known as a safe space for young black students to receive an education without receiving rejection or descrimination. Things Such as Greek Life, Battle of the bands, and hbcu sports have attracted black students, but what keeps them is the safe space that is given to them, which puts them on a path to success. Black Colleges and Universities have built success in every field of work.

And if my project proposal is accepted, i will display the culture, and how the world has benefited from hbcu's and it's notable alumni.

Up until the late 1600's the existence of microorganisms wasn't a known thing, it wasn't until two scientists of the 17th century named Robert Hooke and Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, started doing their own research on microorganisms, for the existence of these micro-biological factors to be proven. It all started when the first version of the microscope was invented; Robert Hooke was studying a plant called corke under the equipment and discovered tiny boxlike cavities, which he illustrated and named as "cells". Once he made the discovery of cells Robert then went on and renovated a newer version of the compound microscope that better allowed the observation of microbiological elements. Inspired by Robert Hooke's work, Antonie started doing research on his own and while analyzing scrapings from a tooth, Antonie discovered the existence of bacteria on it, under a single-lens microscope.

This relates to the theme of turning points in history, due to the fact that the discovery of these organisms not only led to further research of microorganisms but also led to the invention of pharmaceutical products used to combat illnesses caused by microorganisms.

Introduction of Rap Music and Its effects on today's society

What factors contributed to the turning point?

Racism, Poverty, Urban Renewal, Deindustrialization, and Inner-City Violence

Why did the turning point develop? How did it create change?

The turning point was to voice the opinions and respond back to the hatred going on in the world. It was heavily known as protest music in its earlier form. It created change in how we are influenced by others and let us see different perspectives of others.

What were the Immediate and Long-Term consequences of this turning point?

Social problems with the police, Gang violence, inappropriate use of technology, and damaging the economy.

What impact did the turning point have on those who experienced it? How did they, in turn, affect it?

It led to diverse styles of Rap; however, it wasn't well received at first by the public due to its extreme aggression negative influence, however, over the years Rap became more similar with everyone trying to shoot everyone, etc... Socially, rap music led to the Black Lives Matter Protest, back in 2020, however, this didn't stop the rivalry between the Black rappers, and the police. The people who experienced it, are still experiencing with the after-effects today.

Angelina was apart of a major turning point in history, The Harlem Renaissance. Grimké made the acquaintance of a group of Black women writers, and began writing about her observations of Black life and racism, among other topics. What is our topic selection? We will be researching the 9/11 attacks and its impact on the U.S. On the morning of 11 September 2001, 19 Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger planes in the United States. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon, just outside Washington, DC.

What is my project idea?

My project idea is to do a poster board over 9/11 and have a figure that was similar to the twin towers and the World Trade Center.

Harlem Renaissance was a presentation of diverse art forms and what it meant to be black in America. The Great Migration of African-Americans was a turning point for history because it drew many people with great minds, bright ideas, amazing talents, artistic ideas to make the world's greatest cultural explosion between 1919 and 1926. This cultural era instilled a new spirit of self-determination and pride in African-Americans. Many people gained a new commitment to political activism and social consciousness. I will make a poster board to display the different writings, arts, music, acting, and dances made by African-Americans that were exposed to U.S societies. All that was exposed to U.S societies by artists set the stage for the civil rights movement. During this era African-American artists felt that they had control over the black experience in American culture.
