The test consisted of isolating monkeys for different lengths of time before introducing them to group life. They found that monkeys that had been isolated for around three months were able to learn to play and adjust to group life. They found the monkeys that had been isolated for six months or more never adjusted to group life and the other monkeys wouldn't accept them.

The Harlows created another experiment in which to study isolation on monkeys. This experiment consisted of seperating baby monkeys from their mothers at birth and and exposed them with two artificial mothers. The mothers were two wire dummies that were approximate to the same size, and shape as adult monkeys. The difference was one of them had the wires exposed and one of them had a soft cloth covering it. The studies found that the baby monkeys liked the soft one better even when the wire dummy was the only one with a food source. Closeness and comfort seemed to be more important to the monkeys than food.

She lived the first 6 to 10 months of her life in a care facility but when outside agencies denied payment to her she had to be sent back to her mothers house. For 5 years Anna was only given milk to drink. When she was found she was barely alive.
