It couldn't take its founder's name for competitive reasons. A new name was found for the company by translating Horch’s name, which in German means "hark!" or "listen!" into Latin. The famous four interlock ring logo design came from the merging of four giant companies, with one ring symbolizing one company.

I have always been a car enthusiast, and owning an Audi made me curious about this brand's profound history and stories. I first heard of this brand on a television show about rally cars. I learned about the history behind Audi being the first company to use an all-wheel drive system on its race cars and dominating the WRC rally world. It was used as a military vehicle technology but Audi saw its potential in rally racing because it provides their race car with good traction that allows them to drive faster on slippery surfaces such as icy roads.

AUDI  is able to look back on an exciting and varied past – its tradition of car and engine manufacturing extends back into the 19th century. It all began with August Horch, one of Germany's pioneering personalities automobile engineers. After graduating from the Technical Academy in Mittweida, Saxony he worked on engine construction and later as head of the motor vehicle production department of the Carl Benz company in Mannheim. In 1899 he started his own business A.Horch & Cie. in Cologne. Horch moved to Saxony in 1902, first to Reichenbach then in 1904 to Zwickau, where the company was transformed into a joint-stock corporation.

Among Audi's consumers are highly educated, tech-savvy and modern consumers who appreciate style and quality as well as performance and rider safety. Audi makes premium cars and targets the higher end segment of the market.
