A wash of violent color, pink and streaks of brilliant orange, the container ships on the horizon suspended between the blaze of the sky and the water aflame, the seascape bleeding into confused visions of Station Eleven, its extravagant sunsets and its indigo sea. The lights of the fleet fading into morning, the ocean burning into sky.'

Miranda contemplates the origins of Station Eleven - a comic book about how civilization survives/is reborn after it collapses, realizing the similarities between a post-apocalyptic civilization and her current apocalyptic society. 

Miranda is able to see hope in the sunrise, as alike to the comics, see this beautiful display of 'lights [..] fading into morning' has survived the pandemic similarly to how it survived the fictional one, making her hopeful that if it can survive, maybe people can survive too.

This passage shows hope similar to what Clark experiences when reminiscing of the harbor in the last pages of the text: "he likes the thought of ships moving over the water, towards another world just out of sight". Clark is able to draw hope thinking about the ships moving, imagining they have an escape. Miranda is able to see the harbor as a hopeful place also, where she uses words that are connotative to excitement and joy - hopeful words. These words such as 'extravagant' and 'burning' are not often related to the idea of hopelessness, and are rather considered to be words of happiness, conveying her underlying hope for the future, even if she is not there to see it.

The paragraph adjacent to this speaks of Mirandas hope for others, where she has come to accept the likely death that will come to her and is hoping that the 'crew out there wouldn't have been exposed to the flu', allowing herself to imagine their survival and be hopeful for the possibilities that their life may bring to the new world.

Her ideas are jagged. 

Exhaustion. She was desperately hot, then wracked with chills. Her thoughts were disordered. No one came.

Her thoughts jump from her symptoms and her progress in dying, and the hope she feels for the world despite her inevitable death; her hope for others and civilisation.

She was thinking about the container-ship fleet on the horizon. The crew out there wouldn’t have been exposed to the flu. Too late to get to a ship herself now, but she smiled at the thought that there were people in this reeling world who were safe.

Her jagged ideas and thoughts are evident of how close she is to the end. The paragraphs decrease in length as she dies, and ends with Miranda's last image of the world.
