Name: Akshayaa

Nickname: Aspirational Akshayaa

Bio: Akshayaa is a 29-year-old soft-spoken woman working as a farmer along with ten others in a 5 acre land owned a rich overlord. She quit school after passing 5th grade, got married at 20 and is now part of a family consisting of seven members. She earns Rs. 8500 a month.

Quote: “ All this is only for my children. There aren’t many other reasons to live. I want them to study well, succeed and make us proud. My happiness is solely dependent on their own happiness.”

Demographics: Family size is 7; it includes herself, her husband, three children (2 girls and 1 boy) and her husband’s parents. Her husband is 35 years old. The youngest child, a boy, is 6 while his sisters are 8 and 11.

Psychographics: Akshayaa has a quiet, simple and often brooding demeanor that is a result of constantly worrying about her children’s future. She laments about being forced to quit school after passing 5th grade. She does not want her children to face a scenario where their family background deters them from continuing their education and fulfilling their dreams. Her main moral support is her husband who shares similar aspirations for his children.

Technographics: She can operate a basic smartphone, thanks to her husband who had learnt from one of his colleagues. She can also navigate different channels on the small television set their family has. Apart from these, working on a farm has provided her with the skills to work with basic but important farming tools including being able to operate a tractor.

Tasks and goals: Her main goal, one shared by her husband and her in-laws as well, is to somehow eke out a decent living while economically and morally supporting her children to complete their studies and continue studying further. Her everyday tasks, apart from working on a field, include taking care of her children as much as possible and making sure they complete the home work given at school. Having discovered that her 8-year-old daughter is a talented artist, she also ensures that she gets the proper drawing equipment to continue honing her skills in her free time.

Pain points: Quite often, she finds herself lacking time to take care of her children and to check if they are truly comfortable enough to continue their school work. In cases of health issues like stomach ache or muscle ache, she finds herself earning short of what is required to implement all her goals.

Peak and pitfall moments: Her peak moment was to see her eldest daughter bag the first rank in her 6th grade examination and shortly see the middle child win an art competition held at school level. These moments give her a hopeful glimpse of a bright future for her three children.

Her worst pitfall moment occurred when her husband suffered from stress fractures in his arms that removed any possibility of his working on the farm for around a month. This happened right around the time when she was heavily pregnant with her youngest child. This forced her in-laws to work in the field for a month despite their senility. Such moments remind her of the fragility of their economic situation.
