"Emerging adulthood" is a brand new term that refers to young people between the ages of 18 and 29. Professor Arnett makes it clear that early adulthood is a separate stage of life, not late adolescence or early adulthood. Moreover, it is not a transitional period of adulthood, which is naturally different from youth, but an independent period in the process of life, with a unique social, historical and cultural background.
