On Febuary 1519, the Spanish invasion of Mexico began, and at that time, the name of Mexico was the Aztec Empire. The Aztec Empire was an alliance of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan, and was very hegemonic and dominant at the time, possessing good military power.

In the beginning, there were many conquerors in the Spanish Empire at that time, but the Aztec Empire was an ally and was relatively superior to the Spanish Empire, so it was difficult to defeat the Aztecs with the Spanish Empire. However, the Spanish Empire, through a coalition of invaders, Aztec terrains, and indigenous enemies, defeated the Mexica of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital, within two years.

There were three main purposes for invading Mexico. The first was for exploration and expansion. From the 15th to the 16th century, European countries explored and adventured to find new trade routes, and Spain established colonies to take away the countries' valuable resources and spread Christianity. The second was for conquest and wealth. The Spanish conquistador Erna Costes went to war with the Aztec Empire in the early 16th century with an expedition to conquer it, control its territory, and take possession of its rich treasures before other europian countries get them. The last was to spread the Christianity. The Spanish Empire was greatly influenced by Catholicism, so it sought to spread this to the newly discovered continent. They attempted to convert the indigenous people to Christianity through conquest, and through this, missionaries established churches in Mexico and spread it.

The liberation of Mexico occurred because many factors overlapped in the timing. At that time, in the 18th century, as enlightenment ideas became known in many countries including Mexico, people began to place greater importance on their freedom and individual rights, and this extended to society and politics, such as the independence movement and the movement, gathering the citizens and leading to liberation together. Another factor was Napoleon's invasion of Spain, which resulted in instability and legitimacy of Spain's rule, creating a power vacuum. Finally, in 1810, two Catholic priests became very dissatisfied with the system of the Spanish Empire at the time, which led to a civil revolt, or war.

Mexico's early independence movement had several leaders, each with different visions for Mexico's future, the best known of these leaders being José María Moreles and Vicente Guerrero. As the independence movement was taking place, Agustín de Iturbide, one of Mexico's high-ranking military officers, also participated in the independence movement. He presents an idea called the Iguala Plan. The plan is to become an independent constitutional monarchy where all Mexicans will have equal rights. Finally, on September 27, 1821, Mexico was officially liberated from the Spanish Empire. They signed a treaty called the Treaty of Córdoba, which symbolized liberation, and this is how it ended.
