What/who is the film about?

The film is about having to wake up really early to run in the morning to beat the heat, and then finding out that it's still hot.

Who is your audience (what type of people would go to this film? Be specific!)

My audience is anyone who understands what it is like to have to wake up really early to run in the slightly better heat of Arizona.

What is the important point this screenplay should make?

The screenplay should make the point that while running in the hot, early morning is tough, the feeling after it and the self-discipline gained is worth it.

What do you want the audience to do and/or feel?

Inspired and determined. I want them to see the heat as a challenge to overcome rather as an obstacle to complain about.

Please describe a minimum of two characters using this guide.

SANTIAGO (AGE 15) Santiago is a very perfectly normal human being, except for the fact that he likes distance running. Well, it really is not that odd of a trait, but the things he puts himself through really show he loves the sport. You could describe him as a kind man with tanned skin, which is darker than usual, tanned by his daily run.

RYAN (AGE 15) is a regular teen boy. He is one of the faster underclassmen and has a keen eye for statistics. SANTIAGO and his friends, NIK and HENRY, can count on RYAN sending some new statistics about an exceptional runner or the meet schedule for the team on their group chat. He is of average 15-year-old height (about 5'7) and has light brown hair. He has a skinny fit build that is characteristic of runners. He usually speaks in a soft voice.

Why does this story matter to you? Why did you choose it?

I run (almost) every morning for cross country practice and sometimes it is really difficult to get out of bed. However, after I'm done running, I'm glad I went on the run and I am proud for doing what I did. I chose this video because it is something that I experience almost every day.

Why will your audience be interested in this?

My audience will be interested in this because they will have (most likely) experienced something along the line of waking up in the morning to run, and then finding out it is still hot. My video is about this, and they will be able to relate with it.

How will you grab their attention?

I plan to use shots that are slow and lazy to capture both the sleep inertia and the persistent heat of Arizona. I will also use shots that are tilted to show the mental difficulty of running. But then I will also use shots that show the runners as champions of the heat and of their own minds.

I really like the pan from seconds 47-52 because it shows what the whole body is doing as you run and I also like the shot at about the 1 minute mark because of the composition and lighting. I like this type of style because it shows running from multiple perspectives instead of just following the runner. This can also be an eye-opening experience as a runner because when I run, I only see forward.

1. This fourth week went okay for me. It was challenging to be able to start the writing process of the five page screenplay, especially because of my time restraints at camp. Something Mr. Burr could have done better is given a type of story creation guide that would have helped the students get a clear beginning, middle, and end.
2. The most valuable thing I learned during Mobile Media was the importance of shot variety and composition. In every shot I took, I thought, "How is this different? Am I using the rule of thirds? How would this look from another angle?" This really helped me make great videos.
3. I feel that my storytelling was okay. I think that if I had some more time, I could have gotten a story that had some more structure. I am semi-proud of my project. I am proud that I was able to get a story in and that I was able to learn about screenwriting, but I do think that I could have made a better, more flushed out story. Something that could go better is that I make a list of what key events I want to happen on each page so that I have a structure to follow.
4. I loved this class! It taught me a lot about filmmaking and I learned that I really like making videos. I like how the video projects were about a certain topic with unique challenges, which really helped make the video interesting.
