Separate and not equal- the Consequences

Since the schools were separate, they were not equal. The consequences of segregating a child from a school based on their race are huge, and it effects "his ability to study, to engage in discussions and exchange views with other students, and, in general, to learn his profession... To separate them from others of similar age and qualifications solely because of their race generates a feeling of inferiority," (2).
This matters because, by causing the children to feel inferior from a young age, they are much more likely to struggle with self respect later on in life. By being showed that they are inferior, they will grow up thinking that they truly are inferior based on their race. This can have detrimental effects on a person.

Court involved Segregation
Today, without the courts overseeing them, schools' segregation amounts are increasing. Stanford researchers say, "'segregation does increase substantially relative to levels attained under the court orders,'" (The Return of School Segregation in Eight Charts, 3). Although most would say the condition of our education system has improved, there is noticeable regression when courts lessen their control. It is important to acknowledge that, without the support of the courts, our education system is still experiencing racism. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/the-return-of-school-segregation-in-eight-charts/
