3 important things I learned from this video series are:
- The biggest problem that freelancers face is what to charge, or charging too little.
- When choosing jobs balance three qualities: security, variety, and success. Jobs that score high on the security quality are those that offer full-time work, are with established clients, involve work that you've done before, or that you know will pay reliably and well. Jobs that offer variety include those with new clients so you can expand your base in case another client falls away. Jobs that help with success are those that help you reach your long term goals.
- As a freelancer you can get "scam jobs". These are things to look out for that might indicate a potential scam:
· Uncertain payment terms

· Payment in a form other than money

· The promise of exposure or a great portfolio piece in exchange for work

· The client asks for something illegal or immoral

· The source is inaccessible

· They make you put in some amount of money to make the deal happen

I found this series to be very interesting and helpful. Freelancing is something I'm interested in pursuing. I found the section on Taxes helpful because I find the idea of filing taxes daunting when you don't have a company automatically doing deductions for you. I also enjoyed the section on contracts because I think the security they provide in keeping everyone accountable is very important. I also found the section on what to charge helpful. I also worry that I will overcharge but failed to think of the ramifications for undercharging.

I had no idea that most freelancers charge too little for their work. That threw me off guard a little. What really stuck out to me was the 3 steps to delivering work: confirmation, delivery, and review. Those are very important. Lastly, having a method for scheduling a job is EXTREMELY important especially when you're super busy!

I learned some new information about how companies will hire freelancers to work for them and I found that interesting. I didn’t know that you would have to charge around 2.5 times you’re wage to make what they would pay you at an actual job.
It's always find its important to get payment up front unless you have some kind of binding contract in place.

It was helpful.

3. Avoiding Scams
With modern technology and the internet this has become a very big issue. It is always good to know how to avoid them.

I liked how he broke down his schedule and the importance of "me time". I also am glad he included how to price services as that is a very daunting topic

Realizing how much goes into pricing was important for me. As someone who is very unappreciative of their own work, I tend to devalue it. This video helped with estimating costs a lot. I also realize scams happen all the time but as a freelancer in a small town I guess before this video I would of never thought it would happen to me. I also learned how to break down big jobs better and am going to start using that for class assignments.
