This is a global issue and to demonstrate how large of an issue it truly is our group found a video that is quite shocking. (Horner, 2018)

The Seabin is an innovative creation that was designed to collect pollutants in small bodies of water such as harbors and marinas. The invention works as a water vacuum, sucking garbage and plastic that is nearby into its bucket while pumping only water back out into the oceans. Below is a quick video that demonstrates the benefits of the Seabin. (Seabin Project, 2015)

The Ocean Cleanup is a large-scale approach to clean up the world's oceans. It is a large “U” shaped system that consists of a floater and a screen. The floater bobs up and down preventing any waste from going over or under the screen. As the system moves the plastic and other waste is trapped in the center of the system and then is collected every few months and recycled accordingly. (The Ocean Clean Up, 2018)

Professor Eric Beckman from the University of Pittsburgh is currently creating a recyclable material that can replace plastic packaging. Plastic, in general, is made up of various layers that are very hard to separate. This poses a challenge in terms of recycling (Pittwire, 2018).
