The mood of the story right now seems very casual and informative. The author is just informing the readers some random events the main characters experienced. However, there is a sadness intertwined as well. Whether it's the event of Hassan's mother, or how Amir(main character)'s father ignored him in some ways.

The main character Amir is a person with an extraordinarily wealthy father. His relation with Baba is not that good. Also, his best friend Hassan is his personal servant. To be honest, I don't want to be friends with Amir. He believes that in his relationship with Hassan, he has more rights, just because Hassan is his servant. However, within friendships, I don't think power should be involved.

The role of the setting is very important in this story. The main reason Amir has such a harsh attitude on Hassan sometimes is because of his family. He only gets a father he never pleases, and Hassan in a lot of situations, is just his tool to get rid of pressure.

I haven't read that much about the book right now, but I believe I will definitely prefer the book. Movies usually shorten the plot into pure story. In other words, deeper emotions and thoughts of the characters are just being erased. However, in this book, the plot isn't the most fantastic thing. Emotions of the characters and the sad background stories are more interesting.

After the Kite Competition, Hassan was hard bullied by the villain Assef. Amir saw everything, but didn't have the courage to help Hassan out. He blamed himself, and deliberately made Hassan leave him. Years passed, he came to the United States with his father and had high school there. In the flea market, he met a girl that gives him a wonderful impression with her beautiful face.

The setting constantly changes. Right now, the main characters are in America. Not only Amir changes, his father changes even more. Because of his richness and power back in his hometown, Baba used to be superior over everyone. However, with the language difficulty and culture difference he had in America, his attitude turns to be very mild in general.

What Amir had done to Hassan in this part of the book was shocking to me. It's definitely not good for him to just stand there and watch Hassan getting bullied, but that's not the main reason I feel angry. He felt guilty about the issue after it happened, but he decided to solve the problem in a terrible way--sending Hassan away. What's more, in order to achieve his goal, Amir put his birthday gift his father gave him into Hassan's little hut and told his father that Hassan stole the gift. Hassan, however, helped Amir the last time--"confessing" he stole the gift. I know there is a reason for Amir to do that, but it's just unbearably sad for Hassan. I would obviously hate to become Amir's friend as well.

Hassan married Soraya, and soon Amir's dad was dead because of disease. Fifteen years after his wedding, he received a call from Rahim Khan who also grew very sick, saying that "There is a way to be good again". Amir got to know that Hassan and his wife was getting killed by Taliban, but his only child Sohrab was still alive in the orphanage. Rahim Khan wanted Amir to adopt the child, and told him the truth--Hassan was also his father's child, and his mother was Ali's previous wife. When Amir got there, he found that Sohrab became a dancing boy under the Taliban leader Assef, who bullied him and Hassan earlier. When Assef and Amir had a fight, Sohrab used a slingshot to shoot a brass ball into Assef's left eye. They escaped away. However, due to some authority issues, Sohrab was asked to live in an orphanage temporarily. Because of the painful experiences he had, he attempted suicide. Amir eventually managed to take him back to the United States. Sohrab refused to talk to Amir at first, but after Amir showed him some kite tricks Hassan used to do, he smiled for the first time. At last, Amir said to him, just as how Hassan told Amir, "For you, a thousand times over."

Amir had finally turned into a man in this part of the book. In order to atone what he had done to Hassan, he stood out to Assef even though he knew he would lose to him. He has done so much to Sohrab, just like how his dad did so many helpful things like building an orphanage due to his regret of cheating with Ali's wife. At this point of the story, I would like to become Amir's friend, because he has fully grown into a responsible man.
