We are taking names and the first 35 people who express interest to fill the roles will be invited to take part in a workshop session on Sunday January 18th, 2026 at the Eastgate Theatre 2-4pm. Casting will take place from there.

How will I know which part I am playing after the 18th January?

The cast list will be published here, on the Padlet and on the Dragonfly Facebook page and Instagram @dragonflyprods.

Will I have to sing in the production?

Yes, but not well! We want people to sing like people sing in church. Honest, raw, from the heart - it's not choral. Local singing teacher and musician Frances Taylor will be there to support you in this.

What is ensemble theatre?

Ensemble theatre is where there is no one 'lead' as such and everyone's energy and presence is valued. For this production it means there will be movement direction in rehearsals and certain ways of moving that the whole cast do together, in a particular way. All actors will remain on stage at all times for the 60 min performance so everyone is acting all the time, or sitting on benches / adding to the atmosphere. A definition is below 'In theatre, an ensemble is a group of performers—including actors, singers, and dancers—who work together as a cohesive unit to create a unified performance. This approach emphasizes collaboration and the collective effort of all members rather than focusing on individual star performances. The ensemble's members often perform in unison, support the principal characters, and may play multiple smaller roles throughout a production'.

Do I have to make ALL rehearsals?

Yes, ideally. It's helpful for us to know we can call you if possible 2-4pm on Sundays and you will know 1-2 weeks ahead if you are being called. The late April and May dates require full attendance.

We will issue a rehearsal schedule, 2 weeks ahead, so you can see if you are needed. Not all actors will be called for all sessions, but there will be times when we need everyone, it's an ensemble piece. The key dates are where we really do need everyone. Please indicate your availability on your application. The rehearsal schedule will be published here on the Padlet.

If you have generally good availability and want to take part but have an issue with key dates, get in touch for a chat. We may be able to 'double cast' your role.

On show days, when will I need to be there?

Usually we would ask you are in the building 1hr before hand to at the very least at the 'half' which is 35 mins BEFORE the performance starts, to let the Stage Manager and Wardrobe Mistress/Master know you have arrived and are getting ready.

What is Duns Play Fest?

How will we get to Duns ?

There will be transport from Peebles to Duns and returning that night. There will be a full tech rehearsal in Duns before our performance as part of Duns Play Fest in the early evening and then the journey home is approx 90 mins back to the Eastgate car park. Please allow a full day for this day. There are cafes and pubs, chippies and a pizza place plus a co-op in Duns and the festival also has catering but you could also bring snacks and drinks. www.dunsplayfest.org.uk

What is Inspiring Life?

Inspiring Life is a wellbeing festival funded by the Evie Douglas Memorial Fund and we are working with Inspiring Life on this production which looks at the stigma of gossip and repercussions/legacy of this for a town such as ours. Working with historian MARY CRAIG the play will explore themes of trauma, and the dangers of gossip and 'loose tongues'. For more see https://inspiringlife.org.uk
