I want to become a pediatric nurse because I genuinely care about children’s well-being and want to make a positive difference in their lives. Even though I haven’t had much experience volunteering in hospitals and no one in my family works in healthcare, I have always felt a strong connection with kids. I admire their honesty, energy, and the unique way they see the world. During my month internship at a pediatric hospital, I had the chance to see firsthand how children cope with illness and the emotions that come with it. This experience confirmed my desire to pursue a career in pediatric nursing. When children are sick, they often feel scared and confused, and I want to be someone who helps them feel safe and supported during those difficult times. To me, being a pediatric nurse is more than just giving medicine, it means listening, comforting, and showing kindness every day. I want to be there not only for the child but also for their family, helping them navigate through tough moments with compassion and care.

Location: Pediatric blood draw room in a hospital. The room is bright and colorful, with drawings on the walls to make it more friendly for children. Luca, a 6-year-old boy, is sitting on the bed with his mother beside him. Tre Nurse is getting ready to do the blood draw.

Actors:

• Nurse: a kind nurse who is trying to make Luca feel comfortable.

• Luca: a 6-year-old boy, nervous about having a blood test.

• Mother: Luca’s mother, sitting next to him, trying to calm him down.

• Sara: Luca’s older sister, who has had a blood test before and is helping Luca feel less afraid.

Dialogue:

Nurse: “Hi Luca, how are you feeling today?”

Luca: “I’m scared… I don’t want you to take my blood. Will it hurt?”

Nurse: “I know you’re scared, Luca. But don’t worry, it won’t hurt much. It will feel like a quick pinch, and it will be over very fast.”

Mother: “It’s okay, Luca. You’re very brave. Remember when Sara had her blood test? She said it wasn’t so bad.”

Luca: “But… I don’t want to do it. I’m scared.”

Sara: “It’s not so bad, Luca. I was scared too, but after it was finished, I felt much better. You can do it!”

Nurse: “I understand, Luca. But after the test, you will feel better. And I will be right here with you. I will show you everything before I do it, so you won’t be surprised.”

Luca: “Is that the needle? Will it really hurt?”

Nurse: “Yes, this is the needle, but I will be very careful. First, I will put some cream on your skin to make it numb, so you won’t feel much.”

Mother: “After this, we can go for a walk in the park, okay?”

Luca: “Yes, after we can go for a walk?”

Sara: “You’re going to be great, Luca. It’s quick, and then we can go outside and play.”

Nurse: “That’s right! Once it’s over, we can go. Are you ready?”

Luca: “Okay, I will try.”

Nurse: “You’re doing great, Luca. It will be finished very soon.”
