The United States entered the war later than others because it didn't concern them as much in the beginning. A few years into the war, Japan put an air strike plan they had been cooking up for months into action. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, with bombs, machine guns, torpedoes, and much more. There was so much death and destruction that the United States saw it as a terrorist attack from Japan and joined World War two.

The United States prepared for World War 2 by increasing the size of its army and practicing for what was to come. Our General George C. Marshal had our soldiers practice going from ship to shore, for they would need to do that once they attack for many's last times. Once their k rationing arrived they knew that D-day was approaching quickly.

The code word that was used for Dooms Day was not D-day but instead, it was OVERLORD. They took roughly two years of preparation for this day of overtaking France to get to Germany and Hitler.

A total of 11 million people were murdered during this time. 6 million were of Jewish descent, other 5 million were not of Jewish descent. within 5 years 11 million people died, that is more than 2 million people dead per year. Nazis weren't just targeting adults. The Nazis also made children's books advocating for anti-semitism and genocide of all Jews, encouraging children to join the fight.

At home, during the war women found themselves looking for jobs. People started rationing their food and planting victory gardens. Victory gardens were normal gardens, people believed that if they made these gardens then it would give soldiers more food and could help better the war efforts. Victory Gardens boosted morale and gave people hope. People used these as well as food stamps to keep the pressure off food supply. Hollywood propaganda was also used to boost morale. Most of the movies produced during that time period gave people a sense of national purpose. After the attack on pearl harbor by the Japanese President Roosevelt felt it was a security risk to have any people of Japanese descent in America. The first interment camp that any Japanese were sent to was located in California. Life in interment camps was almost like a jail. Hot water was limited. They slept on cots and their heat was a coal burning stove. After the interment camps were shut down, the Japanese who were still living got a formal letter apologizing, $20,000, and a one way ticket anywhere they wanted. Many still find this not enough.

The Yalta conference was one of the final meetings before the Manhattan Project was initiated. It was the meeting of the heads of the government of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. They wanted to talk about the postwar reorganization of Germany and Europe. It is safe to say that nobody left that conference happy. May 8th, 1945, marks VJ-Day. Victory in Japan Day is the celebration of the end of war in Japan. America finally defeated Japan, therefore, a day was named after it and took a load off of people's backs. Lasting from June 18, 1942, to August 25, 1947, the Manhattan Project was an Atomic bomb. The US planned to drop this bomb on Japan. They had no idea if this would work since it was experimental. The main person working on this project was Oppenheimer. This top-secret WW2 government program employed over 100,000 people. They made this bomb to save the lives of American soldiers and shorten the war.
