Summary:
Unity is achieved by having all the design principles in a piece work together to make it look unified. By leaving one principle out, you could risk causing everything to feel disunified and miscommunicate the purpose of the design.

Reflection:
The author first explains what Unity is, then goes into detail about how each part of design plays into this. They also give examples and show you the best way to have Unity in your work. The article shows the reader how unity plays an important role is all designs because without it, the viewer will not understand what's trying to be communicated.

14, Dan Silveira Jan, et al. “Unity Principle of Design – Unity Defined: Adobe XD Ideas.” Ideas, 14 Jan. 2021, xd.adobe.com/ideas/process/ui-design/principles-design-unity/.

Summary:
Balance is when design elements coincide to create a sense of completion. It is when objects, space, colors, and texture are placed in a way to achieve a certain visual weight through the proper distribution of elements. There are 5 elements of balance (Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Radial, Mosaic, and Discordant).

Reflection:
The article on balance was very helpful in explaining how to create balance and what the different types of balance do. They also go further to help the reader understand the design concept by creating imagery.

“Understanding the Importance of Balance in Graphic Design.” Pluralsight, 26 Jan. 2023, www.pluralsight.com/blog/film-games/understanding-balance-graphic-design.

Summary:
Movement in graphic design aims to move the viewer's eyes toward what's most important. A good design should cause the viewer to interact with it in a way that communicates its purpose.

Reflection:
The article on movement is very useful and a simplified explanation of how movement changes the way someone views a design and how it is used in designs. The author effectively creates word pictures to communicate how proper use of movement is achieved.

“Movement in Graphic Design: Understanding What It Means and How to Use It.” CorelDRAW, www.coreldraw.com/en/tips/graphic-design-principles/movement/#:~:text=What%20Does%20Movement%20Mean%20in,they%20move%20across%20the%20screen.

Summary:
The pattern is used to create consistency and unity in design. How it is designed and distributed can change the piece's mood.

Reflection:
The article, Pattern In Graphic Design, does an excellent job of explaining how pattern is not just repeated shapes, but also repeated concepts. Pattern came also be the branding of a company. The author even gives examples from well know designers' work.

Peate, Stephen. “Pattern in Graphic Design: The Pattern Principle of Design.” Fabrik Brands, 22 Feb. 2023, fabrikbrands.com/pattern-in-graphic-design-the-pattern-principle-of-design/.
