Ambitious

“I never got over that… …That that was what one person could do for another, fix him up—set up the problem, make him all right again. That was the most marvelous thing in the world…I wanted to do that. I always that it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up the sick, you know—and make them whole again. …I wanted to cure. It used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It use to matter. I use to care.” P. 133

This explains how Beneatha is ambitious by her explaining her passion of wanting to be a doctor. She is explaining Asagai that her dreams have been being a doctor since she was a child when she witnessed an accident. Through Rufus getting injured she found a passion to help people and stuck to it. Although her passion for being a doctor is strong Asagai doesn't agree with this, he thinks she should come live with him in Africa. Beneath still holds onto her dreams and plans to fulfill them.

Independent

“Get over it? What are you talking about, Ruth? Listen, I’m going to be a doctor. I’m not worried about who I’m going to marry yet – IF I ever get married.”

This explains how Beneatha is independent by her telling Ruth that she doesn't care about having a man, she just wants to be a doctor. Beneatha only cares about becoming a doctor. She feels as though she doesn't need anyone to help her get there. Her mother Lena doesn't approve of this because Asagai has money and she feels as though she should marry him. Beneatha doesn't care about anyone's opinions on her dreams including her own mother.

My opinion of Beneatha is that she is a very smart girl with very big dreams. I sympathize Beneatha because she only cares about her dreams and no one is really supporting her. Her mother really listens to her and she tries so hard to be a good person. Beneatha in my opinion is that she a very good person, she just wants to fullfil her dreams and there is nothing wrong with that. Although, Beneatha is a good person she still has a sour rude side when something goes wrong for her. She is just like any other person in the world.

I chose this picture because Beneatha is being told by everyone in her life to be what they want her to be. She never just gets to be herself, her wants seem to always be over-looked. This picture is a combinaton of different facial characteristics made to look as if it's one individual person. This relates to her life because either her mother, brother, or Asagai are always telling her what to do and even how she is suppoused to feel. It's like she has a different mask for every relationship with anyone.

I chose this poem because Beneatha is being told who she needs to be and she still tries to be her own person. She is constantly being put down by her family members. Beneatha is strong mentally with knowing who she is. This poem by Rupi Kaur relates to the character Beneatha because she knows who she is believes she can meet her goals even though her family doesn't.

I chose the song "Show You" by Shawn Mendes because it's about how he as very big dreams and even his parents put him down. They tell him he can't do this and that he can't do that so he is trying to prove to them that he can. This relates to Beneatha and her situation because no one really believes in her or her dreams. Beneatha strives to be a doctor and has the will power to go through whatever cirumstances are thrown at her to get where she is trying to go.

In A Rasin in the Sun the theme is about how families have struggles but still have to work together to keep the family together. You can see this in Fences as well, if not more. In A Rasin in the Sun Walter almost ruins the family because he loses all the money to a scammer. But the family works to stay together by talking it out.

In the movie Fences the theme is exactly the same because Troy risks ruining there family by sleeping with another women who ends up pregnant. Troy's wife decides to stay with him because she feels as though she owes him that as a wife. Although the situtation isn't best they still stayed together and raised the daughter of the other women because she died giving birth.
