I have learned about being global citizens and I plan to incorporate that in my students to think and act like global citizens. I will also like to focus more on the 21st century skills and the SDGs in my lessons.

Three to six months from now, I see a classroom where students are confidently discussing global issues like climate change, inequality, and cultural identity. They are engaged, respectful of different perspectives, and able to connect classroom knowledge to real-world problems. I see my students working on international projects, exchanging ideas with peers from other countries, and using English not just as a subject, but as a real communication tool. They are developing empathy, curiosity, and responsibility as global citizens.

In the future, perhaps it can be done like this:

Create a topic: For instance, how do you view global pollution?

Divide the students into groups from different countries to express their respective opinions.

Propose their own solutions to the problem of global warming;

Lead students into nature through measures such as seawater quality inspection, garbage disposal, and publicity and appeal,

Let students understand how to be a person with a global sense of citizenship.

During this process, cultural collisions among different countries will occur. However, by building Bridges, understanding and empathizing with each other, we will seek harmonious perspectives, embrace diverse differences, and develop a stronger sense of collectivism.

Over the next year, I will progressively integrate STEM concepts, 21st-century skills, and SDGs into my mathematics teaching for junior high school students. In the first 3 months, I will introduce the basics of STEM through math-related activities, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving, while connecting these topics to SDG 4 (Quality Education). By 6 months, I will focus on enhancing collaboration, communication, and technology use in math lessons, linking mathematical concepts to real-world issues like SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). By 1 year, I will implement problem-based learning approaches, guiding my students to apply advanced math skills to solve global challenges, contributing to SDGs such as SDG 13 (Climate Action), and empowering them to become proactive agents of change.

One of the key thing I have learnt over the period of this course is Unit in diversity.

Here are my thoughts on the subject unity in Diversity:

"Unity in diversity" refers to the state of being united or together despite having differences. It emphasizes harmony and cooperation within a group or society despite the presence of various cultures, beliefs, or backgrounds. It's not about erasing differences, but rather recognizing and appreciating them while still working towards common goals.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

What it means:

Harmony and togetherness:

Despite variations in race, religion, culture, language, or other aspects, individuals can still coexist peacefully and work together.

Acceptance and appreciation:

Unity in diversity goes beyond mere tolerance.
In 3 months I see my students with a wider understanding of what is happening around, not judging but trying to understand and providing solutions in order to ease the current situations. In 6 months I see them learning more about emotional intelligence, so that they manage efficiently their feelings and other people reactions. In a year many of them will enter college, therefore they will be aware students.

In the next 12 Months, I would have had enough time to give my learners an opportunity to feel like active citizens. We can create an awareness program which we run for a year moving from community to community where we inform people of the impacts of their activities on global warming and what can be done to minimize the damage. While running this we can also create a social media page for it, where we will post pictures taken on our community visits, pictures and videos that share knowledge on the matter at hand either from the internet or the ones that learners created. In this way, I won't only be teaching learners about SDGs, but communities at large.

Begin with watching English-language documentaries like "Our Planet" and "Kiss the Ground" to spark interest, followed by discussions on related topics to enhance language skills. Assign research projects where students explore these issues in English, presenting findings to the class. Encourage cross-curricular learning by connecting with science classes to understand environmental mechanisms and with math classes to analyze data. Use authentic English materials, such as news articles and academic papers, for reading and writing exercises. Also, organize debates and role-plays on topics like climate policies and sustainable agriculture, promoting critical thinking and language use.

i) What do I see?

Three to six months from now, I see a transformation—both in myself and in my students. I see a science classroom that feels alive, where curiosity is louder than fear, and discovery feels like a shared journey. Teaching Biology and Chemistry in Grades 10 to 12, and Integrated Science in Grades 7 to 9, I now witness learning that is no longer confined to textbooks. It breathes in the real world, in the problems that surround us, and in the dreams my students dare to explore.

I see students asking not just “what” and “how,” but “why does this matter?” They connect lessons on ecosystems, cell biology, combustion, or acids and bases to real issues like polluted rivers, poor sanitation, food insecurity, and global warming. They propose locally grounded solutions, blending scientific principles with compassion and innovation.

I see learners from different backgrounds working together—learning from each other’s cultural experiences and building mutual respect. My Grade 7s ask questions about waste management in their neighbourhood. My Form 3 students design small-scale solar devices for their homes.

After attending the Global Citizenship Education training, I imagine that in a few months my students will become more open-minded, empathetic, and aware of the world around them. They will begin to see the connections between local and global issues and understand their role in contributing to solutions. In class, I expect to witness richer discussions, with students asking deeper questions, respecting diverse perspectives, and collaborating to solve real-world problems. They will also become more responsible digital citizens, using technology ethically and thoughtfully. Most importantly, they will develop the confidence and initiative to take meaningful action through community projects, environmental efforts, or acts of kindness and showing that they are not just learners but active contributors to a better, more just world.

My mission is to transform theoretical learning into a joyful, practical experience.

In our classroom, discussion is key: I foster a space where students smile happily, eagerly raising their hands to explore their doubts, ensuring every voice is heard. The learning doesn't stop indoors; we often take our curiosity out into the garden to connect our lessons directly with nature. The lab is where the real magic happens: whether we are meticulously dissecting a heart to understand its intricate parts or performing a complex experiment, my students are always actively, happily engaged. They don't just listen; they participate, enjoy, and experience science first-hand. This blend of conversation, nature, and hands-on discovery ensures that biology is not just a subject, but a fascinating adventure.

One year from now, I hope to see not students who merely memorize economic models, but individuals who can apply economic thinking to tackle real-world sustainability challenges as complex problem-solvers.

For instance, when exploring the potential tensions between SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), students won't just settle for textbook answers. They will spontaneously form "policy advisory teams" to conduct in-depth research on a local industry, such as garment manufacturing or food processing. One team might develop a business plan for a small clothing company seeking to transition from a "fast fashion" model to a sustainable one. This presents a complex problem with no single clear-cut solution: they must analyze changes in cost structures, assess consumer willingness to pay a premium for eco-friendly products, and weigh the short-term vs. long-term impacts of this transition on local employment. This process could force them to integrate knowledge from business, ethics, and environmental science.

Throughout the project, they will demonstrate deep critical thinking. Upon finding an online report claiming that "sustainable businesses are more profitable," they wouldn't accept it at face value but would actively question its assumptions, scrutinize the data source, and identify potential sample biases. They would compare information from various sources to uncover logical fallacies that might be obscured by corporate messaging. Ultimately, their deliverable isn't a simple answer but a comprehensive report including scenario analyses, risk assessments, and ethical considerations, truly grasping the complexities and trade-offs involved in implementing SDGs within economic decision-making.

I hope the new attitude they've developed is embracing global economic uncertainties and viewing every apparent conflict between policy goals or business dilemmas as a valuable opportunity to hone their complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills. They no longer search for the one right answer but focus on designing more resilient and responsible solutions.

In the next three to six months, I will convey STEM concepts and SDGs to students through classroom discussions, class meetings, and other forms. I will tailor my teaching to each student's personality, helping them develop a global perspective, understand and embrace differences, and become empathetic and creative. I will provide opportunities for them to connect with students from other countries, enhance their overall competencies in multiple areas, especially in communication, collaboration, and creativity, and guide them to become proactive global citizens.

Through my participation in the AFS International Program, I have gained a more intuitive understanding of the developmental disparities between regions. Behind this predicament lies the most straightforward manifestation of global development imbalance. While developed countries have long entered the era of smart lighting, many regions in Africa still pay a heavy price for basic access to light: 600,000 women and children die each year from exposure to fuel smoke, forests are shrinking due to excessive deforestation, and medical stations without electricity cannot store vaccines. Schools can only hold classes during the day, trapping these areas in a vicious cycle of "no electricity—poverty—even less electricity". As the night skies over Africa gradually light up with tiny glimmers—whether from the faint glow of Moser Lamps or the light of solar microgrids—they all tell the same truth: technology itself cannot eliminate the development gap. However, when technology is infused with the warmth of inclusivity, and when innovators choose to embrace sharing over monopoly, it becomes a bridge across imbalance, allowing every life the opportunity to thrive in the light. This is perhaps the true essence of global collaboration advocated by the AFS International Program—**connecting differences through empathy and narrowing gaps through innovation**.

Ideation of my Classroom 6 months down the line

I envision my classroom as being a culturally diverse one where each student is acquiring 21st century skills so that they can be competent global citizens. The students would be aware of SDGs and incorporate them while consciously making decisions which empower them as critical thinkers. Their actions will be geared for a meaningful and productive environment with global perspective and they learn to be proactive non judgmental listeners. My role would be to facilitate and mentor them in this journey with technological skills to navigate their path.

My class will be shaped by the knowledge i have gained. My class will include global issues and SDGs to widen their horizon. Likewise, I will be a role model to implement most of these concepts and encourage my students to show empathy, no microaggression, no stereotyping, manage conflict effectively, accept each others identity, a welcoming environment and more. I hope i succeed to make my class a second home for both myslef, students and other staff. A modern class with 21st century skills
