Participants were chosen from both care facilities and the community. As people were chosen, they were assessed on whether they meet the necessary criteria, which reduced the amount of participants. The intervention group continued their regular care regimen. They also received a weekly HT session. These subjects also had to complete the BTC technique everyday for 6 months. The control group continued their regular care regimen with no interventions added.
The study could have reduced bias by making it more randomized; the staff at the facilities were recommending individuals to participate rather than randomizing those chosen.
