The book starts where the last book, The Power of Six left off. Six, Marina (Number 7), Ella (Number 10), and Crayton (Ella's Cepan) are boarding a plane to the Himalayas in search of a boy who is said to be able to move things with his mind. They Believe this boy is a member of the Guarde. Meanwhile in the United States , Number Nine has been watching over Number Four while he in recovering from colliding with a blue Mogadorian forcefield in an attempt to rescue Sam from the Mogadorian base.

The Himalayas are where Six, Maria, Ella, and Crayton first met with Number Eight. Also it is the location of a battle between the Mogadorians and Six, Marina, Eight, Ella, and Crayton. The battle results in Crayton's death. The Loric Stone which allows the Guarde to enhance their powers for a short time is located there too. Eight uses it to teleport Six, Marina, Ella, and himself to New Mexico.

Dulce is a secret underground government base located in New Mexico. Six stumbles upon the base when she is separated from a teleportation attempt by Eight. She is taken by the government and inside she is thrown into the same cell as Sarah Hart, Four's girlfriend, who reveals what the government has done to not only her but others. Marina, Eight, and Ella eventually teleport there in search of Six. Four and Nine make their way to the base as well and meet up with the rest of the Guarde. This will ultimately be a battleground for the Guarde and Setrakus Ra.
