Flash with Algebra

I can see using Flash with a group of students that are working on algebra word problems. Students could first all write out what's important about a problem and what they think they need to do to solve it then compare their strategies. Then they could answer on their own and come back to compare their answers.

I have used the Whip and have had success in table groups. IM also does Say Anything regularly. Think, Ink, Pair, Share has also been useful for us.

I like this as a strategy to tie things together. I have been pushing kids to write or say what's one thing to remember from a lesson or to answer " if mom asked you what you did in math today what would you say?" I think this is a nice variation on this and it also allows us to have a visual for our own practices. Did students neglect a big idea?

I would like to modify True/Not True into a review for my math intensive. The goal would be for students to engage in an error analysis on a problems and identify if the answers for the problems are "true" (correct) or "not true" (incorrect) with reasoning behind their answers.

This seems great for review during intensives and whole class time! Supply wise, I feel this would be easier during intensives. However, as a whole class, it would be nice having groups with clear roles and rules for students.

I also think this could be modified to partner work. Kids have a clipboard, they can solve a problem and discuss strategies and implementation. For a new round they could have a new partner. I'm thinking of trying with my 6th grade intensive on Thursday as an alternative to a speed share from the problems they worked on last class.
