This war literature book is my favorite because it helps depict the challenges that soldiers face when they go to war. It also helps civilians understand why it can be so difficult for soldiers to adjust to life after war.

I think that war literature has affected me by showing me the unglorified version of what was happening. Sometimes war can take on a very heroic and glorified persona. No one wants to talk about the true effects of it but I think that literature speaks the truth.

by John Boyne
I'm intrigued by many excellent war novels, but recently was fascinated by Boyne's descriptive tale of two young boys affected by Hitler's 'cleansing.' Bruno's story shows us that the innocent children of Nazi commanders were affected by the horrors of the Holocaust. Bruno's encounter with Shmuel, a young Auschwitz prisoner, shows the reader that children of the war are just that, children. They make friends and are loyal even when it puts them in peril.
