Function: All sexually reproducing organisms produce sex cells called gametes. When joined with the sperm, the two gametes form an embryo, which will eventually grow into a new organism.

      • The egg cell is spherical to allow an equal change for the sperm cell to penetrate it, regardless of the angle or direction that the sperm cell is coming from

      • Their thick and haphazard spacing makes it difficult for anything other than a wiggly sperm cell to get past

    • Thick membrane that is somewhat hard
      • Does not allow anything other than nutrients to penetrate
