Moral of the story:

The moral of this story is that good will always defeat evil. Throughout the time that old man's daughter stayed at the house she was constantly mistreated but never said anything. The old man's daughter never disobeyed the old women commands although they may have hurt her. At the end of the story the old man's daughter kindness shines brighter than all the evil being thrown her way.

The willow tree is known to grow by rivers and lakes which Russia has. The willow tree is a main factor of this fairy tale because to shows us how the old man's daughter overcomes challenges with the help of magic within the tree. The willow tree is also near the mother grave allowing for healing and resilience throughout her surroundings.

In the song "Chasing Pavements" by Adele she is singing about how hard it is to move on and escape relationships. In this song Adele is unable to move on from a relationship while the old man's daughter is struggling deciding whether or not she'd be better off leaving her current family or staying. Some lines that stood out to me in the song was when Adele says "Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements even if it leads nowhere? Or would it be a waste? Even if I know my place, should I leave it there"? I believe that these lines correlate to the old man's daughters current living conditions because she is struggling deciding what to do because of her place as stated in the lyrics. Also, in the fairy tale she finds it difficult knowing what her place is and if she even has a chance leaving of getting closer to her family.

Summary of the Russian Golden slipper

Once upon a time the was an old couple that lived in a village with their two daughters. The daughter of the old man was a sweet, caring, hardworking girl while the daughter of the old women was quite the opposite. The old woman's daughter was spoiled and had everything handed to hers. The old woman was nowhere near a nice lady she was always mistreating the old man's daughter and treating her like nothing but a slave. Since the old woman's daughter was very spoiled the old woman took it into her own hands to find a way to tend to herself and her daughter. One of the tasks assigned to the old man's daughter was to drive out the heifer, graze it. This truly hurt the old man's daughter and wept because of it. Hearing the cries of the old man's daughter the heifer approached and asked her what was wrong. The girl responded by saying the old woman had forced her to a task that she didn't feel comfortable with, by the help of the heifer by morning the task completed. The next day this same cycle repeated as for the next. Each day the daughter completed the task with ease, this left the old woman wondering. Left her wondering how everyday she completed the task without struggle. The old woman knowing that someone is helping her out she snitches on her to her father. Overhearing the conversation held by the old woman and her father she ran into the garden and weepy like no other. Again, the heifer came up to the old man's daughter and asked, " Tell me, der little maiden, wherefore dost thou weep?" the old man's daughter response by saying that he old woman the old woman continues to treat her bad. Through this she was gifted a willow tree, with this the willow tree brought many good things. The beginning of these events started when the old woman announced that her and her daughter would be going to church, and when the old man's daughter tried to join the old woman bared her with impossible tasks. Even thought they were hard she managed to complete it through the help of her friends (birds). After completing the tasks and after her stepfamily left, she asked the willow tree to clean her up and make her look presentable. As she left the house and enter the church many stooped to stare at her wonder who she was. nobody seemed know, not even her family recognized her. these events also repeated, her entering the church, catching everyone's attention and leaving so nobody knows who she is. She even caught the eye of the prince. Once her and the Tsarevich got close at the end of the day she would run away from him leaving him with no information about her. Sooner or later the prince got tired of not knowing who she was, so he set up a trap to catch her golden slipper. After her catches the golden slipper, he goes around the village making different girls try on the slipper so that he can find his missing girl. Finally, he reaches the last house of the old man's daughter, at first the old lady say that it is only her and her daughter but later says that there is a maid, but it is definitely not her. Once they try on the shoe they find their winner. The old man's daughter leaves with tsarevich living a happily ever after.
