To keep an elementary classroom clean at the end of the day, I looked for an object on the floor or out of place. I secretly wrote down the object and had students silently pick up the classroom while I watched for the object to be picked up. Whoever picked up the object that I had written down without talking was able to pick something out of a treasure box.

For elementary students that have name plates I like to have them come in 4-6 different colors. I can call students to meet by color of name tag. Through the year I also like to add numbers, letters, shapes or stickers to help form different or smaller groups for students to met with. I can then also put them in mixed ability groups this same way once I get to know them. Students enjoy seeing a new symbol because it means they will eventually get a new group.
