Drawings have been completed in charcoal, oil pastel and graphite pencil. The students have been able to accurately draw the shape and form of the objects. However not much detail has been given to the qualities of a reflective surface. This is something i hope to further explore with the students in the coming week. Students will work on an observational drawing focusing on the surface material to create a monochromatic tonal dfrawing using pencil. Overall as a group this was their weakest medium and spending time using this medium will further benefit their drawing and observational skills.
The original aim for the painting was to create a distorted self portrait in the painting. Students have been working with a variety of materials to create the for and detais of their chosen animal. The sculpture phase of the project is now complete and students are working on ideas for painting that ties in with the given themes of the CBA. Primary sources are a crucial requirement for this painting. Some students are including their sculptural piece in their ideas. The focus for the first few week was exploration of different mediums. Students have been experimenting with different styles of drawing, scratching into paint, collage and painting. They began with an underpainting blocking in tones of colour. We have been looking at the work of Lucian Freud and his painterly and loose style of painting as our art reference.
