Macduff feels external pain such as revenge because he couldn't protect his family from "slaughter on their souls." (iv.iii. 227.) Macduff wants revenge on Macbeth for what Macbeth did to his family by killing Macbeth. And what makes him feel even more pain is that Macbeth doesn't have children and Macduff had lost them. This proves that Macduff felt external pain such as revenge.

Right after Macduff found out about what happened to his kids and wife, Malcolm exclaims to Macduff "[Take] it like a man." Macduff replies to him saying "I shall do so, [b]ut I must...feel it as a man" (IV.iii.259-261).
These two quotes form the story help with internal conflict happening with Macduff because he must act all tough and "man-like" after he heard what happened to his family. However he says that he can be a man and still show emotions after what news he heard. Macduff is struggling with handling the news of his family dying and he knows that he should have been there to protect them but instead he left to go see Malcolm. He blames himself for what happened to them and he feels angry and disappointed in himself. That is why these quotes are good to show the internal conflict happening between Macduff and the story.

-Emily Redding

After Macduff finds out about the killing of his family he would blame himself for their passing, he is believing "[t]hey were all struck for [him]!" (IV.iii.265)
Macduff didn't know what to do, he felt that "[he] cannot remember such things that were... most precious to [him]" (IV.iii.262-263) These two quotes show that Macduff is so hurt about his family being killed by the murderers that he doesn't know what to do because he continues to have intrusive thoughts about what he could've done to stop this from happening and what is going to happen with his family in the after like "Did heaven look on... would not take their part" (IV.iii.263-264). It shows that Macduff is paranoid and devastated about his family and hopes that everything will get better for him and his mind.

Macduff feels external pain such as trying to get rid of Macbeth because he feels that he will be a destructive and dishonorable king. After finding out that he has just missed Macbeth he shouts to him "Tyrant, [show} your face!/ If [the] beast slain, and with no stroke of mine."(IV.vii.14-16) he is trying to confront his enemy. Before the fight between Macduff and Macbeth, he says to Macbeth "I have no words; my voice is in my sword" (IV.iii.269). These two quotes show that Macduff had no fear in getting rid of Macbeth he was going out for what he thinks he should pay for.
