I feel this image reflects government’s increasing reliance on outside organisations to effectively execute policies. It shows the network. To me, the government could be considered in the middle with the largest circle – but the size, or the level of power, is not much bigger than some of the other players in the network. This reflects dispersion of power that can occur with a shift from government to governance. The inter connection between some of the other players outside the government is also reflective of what happens in practice.

I feel this image represents the shift to governance showing how multiple actors are shaping the way of the political world in contrast to rigid hierarchical models.

This image shows the gap between traditional top-down policymaking and the messy reality policy operates in. It depicts the shift from government to governance in that policy is no longer shaped by hierarchy alone but through multiple actors, messy networks and more diffuse responsibility. I found this task challenging! I like the idea of government engaging more effectively with the community, private enterprise and interest groups to support the progression of policy and legislation that impacts Australia. Supports effective and consistent decision making that considers a variety of factors, not just governmental ones. A long way from the days of only a couple of people developing all the policy and legislative platforms of a government.
