This is basically an article talking about how to mix a pop song from scratch. I've done all the producing/recording side of things with my song now I want to give some audio effects, in addition I am trying to give it a basic mix that you would hear on a normal pop song. This article tells me that I should include reverb, EQ and compression into my song. Normally these effects are seen as bad things but they enhance the sound of your songs, so from this information I decided to add reverb to my strings to make them sound more full and like it is an full orchestra. In addition I decided to add EQ to my recorded bass and this was because I recorded it straight into the interface so by my EQ'ing the bass it sounds more like it was recorded through an amp. Lastly I added a little compression and reverb to the drums so they sound more realistic and like the drums you'd hear on the radio.

Also in this article the main point that I took a way from it was "there's no absolute right way to mix a track." From this quote I thought since there's no right way to mix a track I might as well try to replicate the way how major pop songs were mixed or my reference track ' New York - Paloma Faith' was mixed.

After listening to my reference song I recognised that the strings were the distinctive instruments in the song, so what I did is I levelled all of my strings to 0.0 so that they would sound like a real orchestra and like the track I also panned some strings omni directional as you can see in the image. In addition I added silver reverb to the strings to add effect so the strings still ring after the notes are played. As you can see in the imagine on the side I chose for the reverb to have 70% on the size control, this was because I wanted the strings to have a large effect, sound distant and more in numbers.
