Never Let Me Go shows the importance of meaningful relationships in multiple instances throughout the novel. The characters [are] mainly donors who [are] raised solely to donate their vital organs to society. Because they attend Hailsham, a special school, they find out early in their lives what their purpose is. To make it through life with that knowledge alone would most likely be close to impossible, so the fact that the children have the potential to connect with other children as they grow up helps to make them more developed humans.

pyschology behind this concept

"attachment' is a concept studied in pyschology that proves that children who do not make a human connection, or attachment, in the first year of their lives end up being mentally handicapped, and can lead to possible breakdowns later in life. It is a proven fact in science that a human connection is a primal human need. If a child never connects to a human when they are young, there is a change that throughout their lives they will never have a normal relationship.
