Gerard Gonda professed his monastic vows and entered the Benedictine Order in 1974. He was subsequently ordained as a priest in 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio by Cardinal Basil Hume, OSB of Westminster, England, after which he joined Benedictine High School in Ohio as an English and theology teacher. In addition to his work as an effective, popular teacher, he ultimately held leadership positions such as academic dean and principal. He served as president of the high school from 2008 through 2017. Since 2018, Fr. Gerard Gonda has served as the editor of the school’s Ora et Labora magazine.

Fr. Gerard holds a master of arts in educational administration from Bowling Green State University. He has spent time as a member of several Slovak-American fraternal organizations in the United States. In addition to his activities at Benedictine High School, he has provided a number of student groups, parishes, and other religious communities with speeches and managed retreats. He spent nearly four decades as a weekend ministry assistant at Holy Trinity Parish in Avon.
