This means that nobody knows what releasing is and what it may be. The birthmother job seems to be low-ranking due to Jonas’s mother scolding Lily for hoping to be a birthmother as her job as an adult, and Larissa commented on Edna, saying that she thinks Edna wasn’t smart (Edna was a birthmother). What jobs seem to get you the most respect from people, while what other jobs seem to get you the least amount of respect (I know this is two questions, but I just wanted to add on to make more sense…)

2. Where do you go when you are released? My theory is that there are different places you go to when you are released. For example, I think that a Newchild would end up being released and sent to a different place than someone who violated a law.
