         <description><![CDATA[<div>The negatives in this scenario were numerous.<br><br><strong>Environment</strong>:<br>Not conducive to learning. Classroom too small and adults forced to sit in small desk chairs.<br><strong>Learning Theory?</strong><br>The class was not designed well for adults. It was lecture-oriented and simply about new codes, regulations and retirement laws. The course title/objective was "How to Figure Your Own Income Taxes" and there was little of that conveyed in any practical manner.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Neglected Learning Characteristics</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Andragogy:</strong><br>The lack of any teaching/learning aimed at adults was glaringly obvious. The learners were passive recipients. There was no self-discovery, nothing practical nor task-oriented, no interactivity with the audience in order to understand their needs and take into account their experience, and was not problem-centered (i.e. How to Figure Your Own Taxes).<br><strong>Alternatives?</strong><br>A Constructivist approach whereby individual learners completed sample tax forms, aimed towards their specific needs, and guided by the instructor?<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Lessons Learned</strong><br>Scenarios are practical learning devices as they allow the reader to see and analyze theory in action. For example, understanding learning theory conceptually is not identical to implementing it in course design. Scenarios allow us to view successful and unsuccessful implementations of theory in action or practice. <br><br><strong>Current Scenario</strong><br>The scenario in this example was a failure due to neglecting to apply andragogical theory into the design. <br><br></div>]]></description>
